Chaos as twin blasts rock Boston Marathon

Two bombs have exploded near the finish of the Boston Marathon, killing two people, injuring scores of others and sending authorities rushing to help wounded spectators.

There was a large explosion and a white flash. It blew us all back onto each other. It was so loud, I still can’t hear out of my right ear. I was crawling on the sidewalk, and my cell phone blew out of my hand. There were some really hurt people.

The explosions occurred as recreational runners were finishing, at just before 3pm local time (5am AEST). Television footage shows two explosions occurring metres from each other near Copely Square as competitors crossed the finish line.

Runners fell to the ground, which flowed with blood. Police arrived with bomb-sniffing dogs and hotels were put on lockdown. Reports say as many as 90 people were wounded, with some having limbs blown off.

FBI Taking Charge of Investigation

The FBI has taken the lead in the investigation and at a news conference tonight said there are no suspects in custody.

Despite reports of law enforcement officials questioning a potential person of interest at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where many of the injured were taken, Davis urged caution.

"There's no suspect at Brigham and Women's Hospital," Davis said. "There are people we are talking to, but no suspect."

ABC News can confirm that one of the people law enforcement officials are talking to is a 20-year-old Saudi national at a Boston hospital. Sources tell ABC News that he is here legally on a student visa and that his visa is clean with no apparent criminal history.

Boston police tonight, at a news conference, said that there are people they are talking to, but no suspects.

Apparently they have a Saudi national under police guard in hospital

OBL was a Saudi, and his family and friends literally slept with the Bush family.

Not that surprised she said it actually...

There's no prize for guessing who said this appalling remark. Virginia Trioli on ABC this morning. It's gone viral & there's many who are disgusted with her remarks at a time like this about a tragedy that has killed innocent people.

OBL was a Saudi, and his family and friends literally slept with the Bush family.

Authorities have TALKED TO a Saudi national who is in hospital - presumably after being injured in one of the bomb blasts. That person has NOT been named as a suspect. Let's not forget there were innocent  commuters killed and injured in the London Underground bombings who also happened to be Muslims

This was a crass and insensitive comment for a TV presenter to make and the reference to rich white people is plainly absurd - bombs do not discriminate and I doubt very much that tall the victims were either rich or white.

Nevertheless, perhaps it would be appropriate to stop and reflect -  not with guilt, but with acknowledgement - on the first part of the comment. Things like this do happen every day in other countries and the victims are just as innocent and suffer just as much - but those events have become such a background to our daily news that somehow they don't seem as real or as shocking as when it happens in America.

I have been really upset with a few facebook buddies... their posts about the poor guy that had both his legs blown off have astounded me.. 

apparently he looks like a guy that lost his legs in Iraq and they are saying it is all fake... he can't lose them twice.. 

I did some research and it is not the same guy.. that poor family that have to put up with that rubbish while their son fights for his life.
