Dishwashers. Which brand and why.

I think ours is about to die so it's time I did some thinking about a replacement.
Which brands would you recommend, (from personal experience. I know I can google reviews) and why.
Speed, good spot free drying, and quietness are high on my list of requirements.

You can get a dishwasher cleaner as well. Run a normal cycle with nothing in the machine except the cleaner bottle.

It is recommended to do this every so often to descale etc.

An advertising ploy. Dishwasher tablets / powder etc are caustic enough

They don't seem to stop the calcification and residue though and the dish washer cleaning does get rid of all the build ups.

Re: Dishwashers. Which brand and why.

It depends how often you run a load and how scaly your water is ๐Ÿ™‚

An electrician told me to use a cleaner as it did work to keep things cleaner than just the soap...and means your machine lasts longer.

And plumbers told me otherwise ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Dishwashers. Which brand and why.

Maybe it depends on the guy you get...the installer was a plumber, he had to get the hot supply set up. He said use the cleaner too.

Use it or not. If it smells fine and runs fine, no build up visible or on the dishes ๐Ÿ™‚ it probably wouldn't matter as it would be clean.

I know someone who needed to use it, at least for a trial run...their machine smelled ๐Ÿ˜ž

He hooked it up to the hot water?

Re: Dishwashers. Which brand and why.

This machine needed a connection to both the hot and the cold supply.

It is normal for this model and was required. Specifically asked at time of purchase by the sales rep.

A lot of machines need cold only.

Re: Dishwashers. Which brand and why.

Essentially, It is a Bosch unit that specifically says connecting to hot water can be done and is recommended if you have an efficient hot water service (to save power). The only qualification is the temp mustn't exceed 60c. That was fine for us, so we required the hot be set up as the last machine ran on cold only,

The manual also instructs you on how to program the dishwasher for a hot water connection. The installer did that, he was a plumber not just a removals type guy.

So, that is a consideration in getting a new machine too. How is your water set up? Would you need a plumber?

Gosh, I wish all you people had been around earlier.
We bought a Westinghouse, installed it ourselves and connected it to the hot water ( because that's all that's available in the location)
That's 3 strikes I think

Where have you been all of my life ?? ๐Ÿ™‚

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Dishwashers. Which brand and why.

We have a basic model Dishlex (probably heavy on water usage). It looks old and rumpty but does an excellent job of getting the dishes clean and dry.
