Any suggestions what to do/use/? Got plenty of newspaper but hoping for something a little more sensitive?

Before paper was widely available, a variety of materials were employed.
The Romans used an L-shaped stick (like a hockey stick) made of wood or precious metal; at public toilets people used sponges on sticks that were kept in saltwater between uses.
In arid climates, sand, powdered brick, or earth was used. Until the late nineteenth century, Muslims were advised to use three stones to clean up.
One favorite tool was a mussel shell, used for centuries. Until the early twentieth century, corn cobs were used.

What, all "wild" animals?
I think a lot of them just poop & nothing is left behind (lol), maybe for us since walking upright it has something to do with it.

Ironing it with a hot iron 'sets' the ink.
Handy hint for the day.
Anyone with access to the old telephone books should take advantage of them.
The paper is better quality than newspaper and the ink does not come off on hands or nether regions.
When I was young I remember my grandparents collecting the family phone books when a new one was released each year.
Grandfather was tasked with cutting them to size and threading them on string and putting the bundles on hooks in the loo...for some reason they flushed better than newspaper.
When there was a wet weekend and GF could not get out into his vege garden the production went full steam and there would be enough bundles of loo paper to last for weeks.

So many great ideas.....but mussel shells? Corn cobs?
And i'll give the Gerni thing a miss for now.
Stawks good tip about the iron but now I'll have to go out and buy one.
Anyway i will work my way through them and update the .....bottom.......line.

Hey brighton, just find out what time your local aldi's opens, or Coles, and get there at opening time. You're almost sure to nab a pack then.
I went shopping today at about 8.45am and checked 2 supermarkets. I wasn't desperate as I have a big unopened pack, I was after other things to cook dinner.
Everyone was shopping calmly but I did notice several people with unusually large numbers of jars of passatta sauce and one woman with what looked like about 20 or more cans of tuna.
Then the man behind me said to his wife-what about razor blades, they'll be short of them in a couple of months.
That sums it up I think. People know very well that life is normal enough now but are worried things are going to get much worse soon.
Where do you live, Brighton? I had a feeling it was somewhere in Melb.

Looks like you can buy it online from Woolworths. Their website will also tell you which stores have it near you. I bought some from my local Woolworths this morning. Go early as it disappears off the shelves fast. As least the customers I saw were only taking one packet.

Funny you should mention passata sauce.....I bought several bottles last weekend as I use quite a lot.
I make my own pasta sauce and use it for a base in the slow cooker.....it is delicious with lamb.
