Four'n Twenty Pies are now halal

I went to 7-Eleven tonight to get a bite to eat, grabbed a Four'n Twenty pie and gosh it was halal.

Traitors!  How can they do this?

I put it back in the warmer then drove to a local Italian restaurant and we had pasta carbonara.

Ufo's gunna starve.   How does he know what any restaurant uses

when cooking his meal?  Italians use all sorts, not just fresh.

I'm still looking at those lists for beans.............

Lentils, chick peas etc.are used copiously in Asian and Middle Eastern cooking, so they must be Halal.

I boycott Halal foods because i think the whole halal labelling is a scam.

These halal certification committees are telling companies that they either purchase the certification or their products will fail on the export market. They then charge the companies up to $30 000 a month for the certification.

Its a load of rubbish

Where is the money going? I do know it goes into funding Islamic schools (that do already receive Gov funding) and building of Mosques. Does it also fund terrorism? I have no idea but i wouldnt be surprised if it did. We have recently seen footage from within a Mosque of a Muslim youth group chanting about ending democracy in Australia

Recently the chairperson for the Islamic Council WA Halal Certification Committe was arrested for possession of meth with a street value of $8 million and firearms.  Is that something the Halal certification money is also going to?

My choice to boycott Halal is my choice. Agree with it or not, makes no difference to me.

And just an extra piece of info, not all products that pay for the Halal certification actually display the logo

Daydream Believer.....

It is good that you stand by your convictions. Nothing wrong with that at all, and as you say, it is your choice. I admit to having caught myself rejecting food subconsciously that is labelled Halal, Probably because of all the bad press, I'm not sure. I don't look for the label, but I do know I have avoided some products if I have noticed it.

That being said, I don't see the problem with religions funding the promotion of their own religions. The Catholics, Anglicans and Baptists use community generated funds to fund their schools and churches. Do they fund terrorism? I don't know, but the Catholics hardly have an historical reputation for being saints (no pun intended). They get government funding too.

Not all Catholics are pedophiles and not all Hillsong members are brainwashers (outside the boundaries some believe religion itself imposes). I think there may be extremists and criminals in most religions and non religious organisations alike.

Australian Beef growers pay a fee for the promotion of their product, as do the pork providers. Someone pays for those "eat red meat" adds and the "get some pork on your fork" ads. Then they use the profits from those marketing strategies to legally introduce poisons and hormones into our meats - but they don't tell you that on the labels, do they? Well I guess they do, by ommission, as the organic market is increasing exponentially. (There are fees incurred in order to be able to label your product as organic too, both initial and annually.)

The international Halal market is worth more than $600 Billion dollars a year. Why wouldn't a company want to tap into that? They are not forced to label their food Halal, it is a marketing decision to give them leverage and competitive advantage above another company.

I always buy Sargents.

Sargents in Reservoir is good. Is that the one you mean?

Yes they're clients of ours. They'll probably have to go halal eventually as well to be able to stay in the market, I think.

Sargents is alright tasting but not my fav. The best pies are in Yarra Glen next door to IGA supermarket, don't remember the name of the bakery but you can't miss it. The other one is Gaffney's Bakery in Heathcote, 109 High St, Heathcote. http://www.gaffneysbakery.com.au/

If you have the chance go for a drive out there it is well worth it, afterwards you can visit the wineries and cheesefarms.

You produce islamic cheese for the 2% of the population?

It has been proven that halal cashflow funds terrorism.

Catholic cashflow funds defence for charges of pedophillia.

I think you will find that anot produces cheese for more than 2% of the population, by adding the Halal label, it just increases their market share. Now their product has the potential to appeal to another 460,000 people in Australia alone and increases their ability to tap into that $6 billion dollar international market.

Makes good business sense to me.

Anot - may I ask if you pay $30,000 a month for the Halal certification? (Bouncing off Daydreams post back there). I am thinking that the fees are applied on a sliding scale proportionate to the amount/number of products that a company wants to use the label for.

produce cheeses for 2% of the population ?  i think you overlook the export markets .

it hasn't been proven that halal cerification funds terrorism , i have read the alleged ''proof'' and its baseless gossip . you most likely eat a lot of certified foods without knowing seeing as its exactly the same product., one has the label (depending on where its sold ) and the other doesn't . thats the only difference. Take my product, its all halal-certified but only some is labelled , big companies do the same so you do eat it.
