Here's the crazy yank again, with a question about fruits!!!! GUANDONGS!!

There's a neat article in the national geographic about cassowarys!  Strange birds, those.  Live in the northern part of Australia and parts of New Guinea.  There's a picture in there of them eating  a weird blue fruit called a Guandong.

Please, what is it?  What does it taste like?  Do you folks eat them?  I really need something different - sick and tired of pinapples.  Kiwi fruit are ok.  Coming up next - barbecued cassuary....  (just kidding!)

Hi Everybody!!

Hummm!  MOST INTERESTING!   So that's what they look like!  They do look delicious!  It looks like you get to eat that thin red outer shell, which is probably loaded with nutrients and stuff, and tastes either tart or sweet, or something.  And then you get to play with the nut.  Is all of the nut etible?  Or do you have to crack the outer nut to get to the inner nut?

I'm going NUTS here.....

And here is your quiz for today:   Hee, hee

Can they extract toxin from the box jelly fish and use it for medical purposes?

The Quandong sends out a root which acts as a parasite, hosting sap from other trees, etc.  I wonder if there is a way to tap into the tap root and artifically feed the plant.  If that would make it easier to grow, perhaps.

I wonder if you could cross a Quandong with a Kiwi fruit?  Would that give you a Quanwi, or would it be a Kiwdong?

box jellyfish venom can be extracted, yes...as it causes cardiac arrest, how it would be used positively might pose a challenge.

surely the combination would be a DonKi, so it could have a really cute sticker.

No quandongs, but I thought you might like to see these guys I saw on the golf course yesterday. There must have been hundreds of them all over the place.

Hi everybody!  The name Quandong sounds Chinese somehow.   I know it's a genuine Aussie bush tucker thing, which is great, but it does sound Chinese.    You gotta understand, here in the States, our kids don't know squat about geography!!!  Recently, a bunch of them were asked where Singapore was, and well over 95% of them looked for it in Central China.  Now that's just plain silly!  Why would the people in Singapore move it to China?  Some day, these kids will take over our government, including its nuclear weapons.   I think I'll move to the Owen Stanley Range in New Guinea.
