I've been reading, and watching shows about food around the world, it's diversity and its similarities. And with Christmas coming, I thought I'd ask what your favorite special to the holidays dish is?

One of mine is Whoopee pies, one of my DILs is from Pennsylvania Dutch country and she makes them for us only at Christmas. They are so goood!

I think I read today that there is going to be early snow somewhere on the mainland today or tomorrow?  Wouldn't that be a strange, but splendid thing?

I'm so sorry, my friends! We had a sleet storm and were without real power for 3 days. My genny will only power so much, and the computers aren't on the list, lol! I don't have a "smart" phone, so I couldn't pop in.

Tas, my DIL is down with a stomach virus, but we'll get you her recipe as soon as she feels human again. The one Stawka posted is pretty close though!

Thank you all for being concerned, it's very kind of you! The ice was beautiful, but what a pain in the patootie! We only lost a few limbs from a couple of trees, and those will get chopped and set to "season" for use in the smoker in 6 or 8 months, there are few things tastier than a nice pork shoulder slow smoked with apple and pecan wood!

Yay lalbo, so good to see you here again ...... Heart  All the best for your DIL and a speedy recovery.

Love the sound of the smoker and the pork;  will look forward to a picture of that when the time comes.

We'll make the snickerdoodles to stawks' recipe this afternoon;  "winter" has arrived on the island, a really cold snap which is quite strange;  lots of rain and you would swear winter is just around the corner well before Autumn!

Well look at that! .... Smiley Sad

How could the same batch, cooked at the same time look so different just because they were on different shelves in the oven?

The top shelf produced ordinary round ones, and the bottom shelf had to have a little longer on the next shelf up but why the difference?

Mind you, they still taste delicious.

Any suggestions?

Tas, heat rises.

No shelf is going to be as hot as the top one.

Always do cookies on the top shelf, one tray at a time - unless you've got an oven wide enough to take 2 trays.

When I bake cookies, it takes me an hour to get all the trays done one at a time.

They're not like cakes, they won't collapse.
