I've been reading, and watching shows about food around the world, it's diversity and its similarities. And with Christmas coming, I thought I'd ask what your favorite special to the holidays dish is?

One of mine is Whoopee pies, one of my DILs is from Pennsylvania Dutch country and she makes them for us only at Christmas. They are so goood!

For a meal I cut it in 4, for a snack it serves 8

Looks absolutely delicious to me.  I'm going to make a couple and put them in the freezer for the weekend.

Good morning all  xx

It's only Wednesday but it has already been a "long" week (so to speak) and getting longer by the minute, roll on Sunday .. Cat Very Happy

Worf and Wesley appear to ramping up their track and field antics as the (so far) coldish island summer goes through;  one can only wonder what that means for autumn/winter then ... Smiley Surprised

The Princess of all things bread made Hawaiian sweet bread yesterday and it is AMAZING! It reminds me of the bread I used to get in Little Italy in Boston, I'm very proud of her! I think she's finally mastered the chemistry involved with using yeast, I look forward to more bread adventures soon.

Lal, that Hawaiian sweet bread sounds like something very special.  Any chance of posting the recipe please?  I would like to try something very different.

I have to show the girls the pictures, they'll love experimenting with shapes, those are just too cute!

Tas, I'll ask her to write it out, then I'll type it here, then it can go into their book. Have you ever had King's Hawaiian rolls? Or Portuguese sweet bread? The Portuguese version is the original that was tweaked by the native Polynesians in Hawaii when the Portuguese sailors discovered the Hawaiian islands centuries ago, according to my granddaughter.

The main differences between the 2 versions, at least to me, is that the Hawaiian version is less dense and chewy, more "airy" , and the Portuguese version has a more "nutty" flavor. She's looking for an original recipe to try too.

I like to panfry it in butter and spread it with this bacon& onion jam my neighbor makes, YUM! But it's great with just some butter and salt too!

Hi Lyharger!  We are going to attempt the "impossible quiche" pies over the weekend, having found the right pans . My granddaughter didn't think we should use my pie pans as they aren't "straight sided" , so we hit several thrift stores and  found what she wanted.

I'll let you know how it goes! And thank you!
