For someone like me, it's hard getting by in this world. Seems like most everyone smokes and thats the one thing that actually causes me great pain to be around. Not to mention great pain when I lose a friend or family to Cancer from it.
I'd love it if my dad would quit smoking, I'm sure it would give me more time before losing him, I can see the signs of maybe losing him soon, like mom.
But the reason for this topic is I was asked out on a date, I'm almost sure this man is going to be a smoker as well. That would be a dealbreaker for sure, but It's nice to think that a guy can be attracted to me and might be fun to do something I've only ever done with one other person, who also smoked back in the mid 90s. I'll have to find a tactfull way to let him know it just couldn't work, Kissing a smoker would certainly have me puking all over him, I get that sick around it.

That could work Bob, replace one addiction with another. Problem with that is, and I say this while suspecting that your half kidding, playing along, there's always gonna be a better more attractive woman, who doesn't mind being around smoke and probibly smokes herself. So your gamble advice would be a major bluff.

I ain't joking. Sex ain't gonna kill him. Win -win for you. No attractive woman smokes or likes someone who smokes.

Re: How do you convience someone not to smoke?
No idea joanie, but if you find a way............please help convince me...........
It is a disgusting habit, costs a freaking fortune, and humiliating to think a white stik can hold control over you...........
but sadly I am a smoker and I am addicted, and yes I am not proud of it !

You go girl.........
I admire you more than I can say, I reckon it is the hardest thing to quit.
I quit the alcohol (which was a rather large problem for me at the time) but these things?
Ridiculous isn't, I know the harm it is doing, I know how disgusting it is, I know I can't really afford to do it, hell, seems I know a lota things.......
the only thing I don't seem to know, is how to STOP!

Have you smoked joz? Have you quit? If you found it easy good for you but I found it hell. It is a full blown addiction which goes beyond just being all in the mind. I've been quit 4 years and will never go back because of how difficult it was to quit.
admittedly i found it difficult the first time round
the meditation camp i went to for 10 days, one of the rules was to refrain from smoking
i had a ciggie right up to the dead line, and thought how silly i was coz the next day i hadnt worried about it and concerntrated on the program
since then ive given it away countless times with a stressless attitude. if there is a physical withdrawal. i dont notice it much
only thing is i associate it with beer, one beer and im back to smoking

Yes I found that the hardest, having a drink and craving a ciggy.

See this for what it is. Smoking has an immage of being not a serious addiction. People buy into that sometimes without realizing it.
1- find your plan, make your plan.. Plan how to get away from it and de-toxify. Plan on it being pure hell. Plan on having support, those who will if need be, and who you trust, to force you not to go looking for it. and if need be sign papers giving your consent.
2- hey, a hard fought month and you have control. But don't fool yourself. There will still be bumps in your road, on your journey. But it will be nothing near as bad as that long hard fought month. Remember that month as a major victory, don't throw all that away. See there's something at steak now.
3- provide support for others trying to quit, maybe a support group. Helping others in this area will go a long way in helping yourself stay clean. Educate on the hazards of smoking, direct or from second hand. spread awareness to the problem of smoking.
Still want to quit ?
The reason some find it easyer and some harder, is simple. Some are more prone to the addiction than others, not fair is it? but thats life.
