LNP Asylum policy has Failed....no stopping the boats now

Turn back the boats eh?

Expect another in days and Abbotts promises to be worth nothing.

Hear that silence?....it's the people who made this a hot issue  months before the election....and declared a stop to the boats with a new PM......they are silent. as expected.

Tony Abbott's government capitulated to Indonesia on Friday night, ordering a Customs boat with up to 63 refugees on board to go to Christmas Island.

An asylum seeker in Indonesia contacted Fairfax Media early on Saturday to say the boat had reached the Australian territory on Saturday morning after Immigration Minister Scott Morrison failed to convince Indonesia to accept their return.

"I have friends on the boat," the asylum seeker said in a text message, "and yesterday he says, 'My boat [has] reached.'"

The source said the people on board were from Pakistan and Afghanistan, and had been organised by people smugglers called Muzahir and Sher Ali.

The arrival is a loss of face for the Coalition, which vowed before the election that Australian authorities would not act as a taxi service for refugees. It may also encourage other people smuggling syndicates to try their hand.

I think we should be more concerned about the bigger picture here:

How Indonesia has us over a barrell so much that they've made our government back down over such an important issue. That's a huge slap in our collective faces and a major loss thereof.

Don't forget we trained and supplied in military and naval matters, after all...

...not to mention the billions of dollars in foreign & humanitarian aid and disaster relief that we've given the Indons in the past several years.

Why do I get the impression that Australia is becoming the laughing stock of Oceania? Possibly because we are?

Why?

This is about lies and failure of the LNP to do what they say they are going to do, I am in  favour of them being sent to Christmas Island for the record however Tony Abbott and Scott Morrisson said that things were going to change. They are just doing what Labor did and it is pretty clear that there are problems with our relations with indonesia, the other thing is that the libs are being secretive and not really telling us what is going on half the time!

I think it a huge slap in the face for the Australian Government by Indonesia, Donna, no matter what party may be in power.

I think the ALP knew that would happen if it took a tougher stance with Indon, hence their pussyfooting around with them during their time in power.

We really need to stop squabbling about Lib/Lab preferences and get behind our government, regardless of how we might like or dislike their personal traits.

Try looking at the bigger picture for a change, instead of squirreling for new little snippets of negativity on our PM. In between your listing packaging and posting tasks, of course.

Look, let me make this crystal clear. Crystal clear. Crystal clear. We will not discuss operational matters. Operational matters. Let me make this crystal clear, we will not discuss operational matters. Look.

You illustrate my point, Karen. Thank you.

Always look at the big picture icy, the big picture is that the right wingers were not prepared to discuss policies and reason.

It's the lefts turn to point out and remind them why labor did the things they did, the world hasn't suddenly changed overnight because abbott is pm.

There are a lot more suffering people in indonesia than australia and abbott in his stupidity thinks they are going to take the boats back? He's dreamin'

I think it's a darn shame that the malaysian solution didn't come off.

Yup typical shrill Labor Lovvies

I did not vote labor, you are assuming I did.

His promise and the parrotting of Liberal luvvies was ' Tony will stop the boats'......his first chance to against the Indonesians and he backs down like the shrivvelling wallflower he really is.

Indonesia should be taking a hard line against the influx of boats to their own shores then, instead of seeing themselves as a waystation to Australia. But of course they know Australia is the softer target. The ALP well and truly established that and have handed the chalice on to the incoming PM.
