My day

After several hours during the week clearing and cleaning up a messy garden my day started like this before and after 002.JPG

Re: My day

I admit to being a fairly good custard/white sauce maker Tas, def NO lumps, stirring, stirring, stirring over a very low heat and never walking away, learnt that one the hard way lol

Bushie

So did I, learnt the hard wy.

That is my biggest failure when cooking !!! Walking away, not staying focussed.

Probably is for a lot of men LOL

Re: My day

Oh yes, i let them soak for ages.

I did that to a venison leg once, slow cooker, fell asleep. Even though pI use plenty of water - and in this case red wine,
I managed to fall asleep. Talk about a black sticky and hard mess in the pcooker.

The meat fell off the bone though LOL

That is why I now use 60 minute mechanical timers which I posted about the other day.

I het jolted to go back to the kitchen LOL

Bushie

It took me a few goes to work out how to simmer milk in a saucepan - stand there LOL

I was forever boiling it over with the usual mess.

Re: My day

Okay, I'm known for lumpless gravies, custards.

Heavy based saucepan is best for me.  The burnt stuff on the bottom of a pan after cooking venison, I rinse the stuff out as much as possible without scraping.  Then make the gravy in it, it seems to loosen the leftover stuff quite well and adds to the flavoursome sauce.

Burnt saucepans - mum used to put salt and lemon juice and put them in the sunSmiley Happy

And then dad used to use them for bailing, feeding scoop, fibreglass mixing pot.Smiley LOL

Re: My day

Hee hee, me too Bushie and Aps, burning the custard has only happened twice in my life time, there was never going to be a third time!.... Smiley Embarassed

Reminds me about the time Mr. Tas offered to make a banana custard when we having visitors.   I left him to do that.

When serving it (with ice cream) it became clear that something had "happened" to and in the custard because it had multiple savage lumps floating around on top.

Turned out he had forgotten to get the bananas on the way home so he called into a small store that had run out of the real things, so he hit on the idea of swapping real bananas for those big candy/lolly bananas and after making the custard, tossed them in by the handful and gave the whole concoction a strange exotic gourmet name, made up at the last moment.

Needless to say, it was a big hit;    wish he had warned us first though as we all sat there with bulging eyes wondering just what we had put in our mouths and whether we were going to survive it.

Exquisitely different and very nice in the end, but oh my, the moral of the story is always check what hubby brings home when he's threatening to cook the dessert!

Re: My day

What a great story Tas, Mr B would do something that lol

Yuk aps bet you never did it again lol

Least I am not the only one who has suffered a kitchen disaster lol I think the worst disaster for me was when I was newly married ( 1st  time ) and didnt know much re cooking, I decided to make steak and kidney and the gravy stuck to the bottom of the pot, so I just stirred it around and all these little black burnt things appeared right through it   ..... It tasted YUK!
