Hahaha! The linguistic equivalent of a perpetual motion machine.

I knew a pathological liar once.
I shared a flat with this guy and when the electricity bill arrived it was addressed to a Dr John T.... . Now I knew this guy wasn't a doctor. He also lied about having a particular Beatles record and then couldn't find it when I asked about it (it was a rather small flat).
He lied about lots of other stuff too which wouldn't bring him any real benefits. I think the reason he lied so much is that he was insecure and wanted to be thought well of . . . but his actions had the reverse effect in the end.

@the_great_she_elephant wrote:I think you are confusing the terms liar and pathological liar. According to Google: Pathological lying can be described as a habituation of lying. It is when an individual consistently lies for no personal gain.(italics mine) The lies are commonly transparent and often seem rather pointless.
When politicians lie it is always for personal (i.e. political) gain Their lies may be transparent, but they are never pointless.
No confusion on my part. What about the lies told by politicians for party solidarity? No personal gain to be had there. They might line up and defend a colleague who is under pressure to explain his or her wrongdoing.
We all know that once elected our alleged MPs undergo several operations before they enter parliament. Some operations are: personality bypass; removal of any sense of guilt; installation of a blame shifting gene; installation of a gene that makes them allergic to spending their own money, and other operations.

That's funny. I wonder who believes that.

Yes, quite a few, but I think it's better to focus on the truth. I hear that all truth comes from God, and leads back to God.
