Please find another time for Protest

If you're fighting to protect people's lives, why not start by not risking the innocent lives of everyone elses. Find another time. I will have more respect for you. I was just saying the other day: Thank God that Australians aren't as crazy as Americans and we have at least some common sense not to choose this time to protest.

What if both houses are on fire, but the flag waving rah rah crowd only put the water hose on the house owned by the black man and stand back and watch the white mans house burn dowcing from them

Spoiler
Becuase right now both white and black peoples houses ARE on fire, but everyone is only worried about the black mans house. The Black Lives Matter campaign IS racist.

If Black lives matter so much, WHY  are they willing to put both their health and that  of other black lives at risk? I guess if they catch CV19 that will also be the while person fault for not social distancing from them as they marched?

Beige: a pale sandy fawn colour.

I'm not sure why you would imagine  I am 'a 'pale sandy fawn coulour', Lythargr and i'm sorry to have to disillusion you,  but the truth is my entire  ancestry is boringly white/Anglo/Celtic as far back as i have been able to trace it. I can't even boast a single Jewish antecedent to inject a smidgeon of Middle Eastern colour into the palette.

There is a fear that a second wave or peak could occur because of the protests. That would mean we are back to self-isolation, lockdown etc. And I don't want to get infected and worry about whether I will live or die. I am anxiously waiting to see how many positive cases were caused by the protests. I guess that makes me a small man too, hey?

Absolutely, these protest, which were attended by tens of thousands of people, standing shoulder to shoulder, and shouting slogans, are the most dangerous activity.  When I said that on other sites, I was called a racist and worse.  Yes, there are people traveling on public transport, but they are only in one carriage, kids are only in close proximity to their classmates, the apparently high numbers of people without masks in various malls are also a worry.  But if I wanted to find a way to spread the virus to most of people in one hit, protest march would be it.

Sadly, number of my friends, some near 80, have marched.  One actually said that she has been in isolation (with her husband and 1/2 dozen of grand kids) on their country property, and she needed to be with people, so travelled to Sydney for the protest.  How f.....g selfish can you get!!!!!!   It makes me feel angry and sad; there are many people who are pretty much housebound for other reasons, and they just put up with it.   Anyway, these people were my friends for up to 50 years, and I now feel like unfriending them.  ๐Ÿ˜ž

Maybe because they already tried everything else and it is only getting worse.  As the anger sweeps around the world, and everybody is horrified watching the murder of George Floyd, the momentum is there to attract lot of support.  And the politicians and community leaders are too cowardly to say "please, do not do it now".  I guess it is not easy to turn around, and after weeks of being told everything is under control and the country is safe enough to start going back to normal, and not mandating masks for staff in shops and restaurants.

@ Kazumi, its not that often we agree, but your post sums up my sentiments exactly. I have been fortunate to be involved in an essential industry and have not locked down at all, but it breaks my heart to see older members of society socially isolated, hiding away in their homes in fear.

The country has gone through a period of fairly extreme deprivation with only a handful of people allowed at funerals etc. and we are just starting to see some light at the end of the isolation tunnel. The marchers have put all of that social hard work and financial commitmenmt at risk. They are selfish, self indulgent people who have shown by their actions that they dont really care about other people at all. If they really cared they would understand that older peoples lives ( that they have put at risk ) matter too.

Let's add context to the first cartoon.

Do black live matter as much as white lives? Sure

Do black lives matter to black people? Doesn't seem like they do. They do more harm to themselves than anyone outside.

2nd cartoon context.

The black's house is uncared for, people inside graffitting it, dealing drugs and hookers. Blacks complaining that they don't get extra attention when there's a fire. Why should others care about your house, if you don't .

Let's look at the oppressed in history who actually started bettering themselves. The Jews. The Chinese immigrants. the Italians. Ask yourself how they managed? They had limited resources.

Protests does nothing. I want to see protestors actually doing something that makes a difference apart from spreading the virus.

But both houses are NOT on fire.  Yes, some white people also get roughed up and even killed by police, but proportionally, per capita, blacks in America and Aboriginals here, are many times more likely to get killed than whites.

That does not mean that cops will not treat white person badly.  I was brought up to see police as somebody you turn to foe help; they are here to protect you; only criminals are afraid of them.  Therefore I always distrusted people who expressed dislike or even hate towards police.

Until one day, back in 1970s.  I saw 2 cops chasing boy into large playground of alternative school; it was week day about 4pm, and only reason the playground was not full of kids was because it it was drizzly cold.  But there were few people, including me with my infant daughter.  The kid ran past us towards the toilet block when the cop fired 2 shots, and THEN shouted "stop or I shoot".   He missed, but there were large holes going through all the walls of the timber building at chest level; luckily there was nobody in the toilets.  The kid then jumped fence and got away.  I was furious that they would be shooting at school grounds, so I went straight to the police station (baby in the pusher and all), which was just around the corner, asked for the person in charge.  I told him what happened; his eyes narrowed, he put his hands on his hips, rocked backwards and forwards and then said "do you have any drugs at home".  I was stunned and stuttered "no of course not", and he just glared at me and said "it can be arranged".  I was out of their so fast............   I never again could look at cop and think of him as a protector.

Later on we found that the kid (and yes he had darker skin) has tried to shoplift a jumper, and as the cops were taking him to the police station, he took off.   But the incident was not in papers.

I seem to remember all of the same faces jumping up and down about domestic violence when the Hannah Clarke incidence occured. They have all moved onto this latest fad issue now ( Black Lives Matter ) and forgotton all about domestic violence, let alone actually getting off the couch and doing something about it.

Meanwhile this week I was standing between a couple who where attempting to injure each other in a domestic. Want to now what actually doing something looks like ?

Here's an example of one person doing something whist the rest are protesting and doing nothing. Imagine if 10,000 actually did something. Thanks for providing the example.
