Restaurants should be CHEF trained before opening

I took the wife out tonight to Carlton and was disgusted at the meals we were served. The pizza dough was flavourless and hard, the sauce was out of a can and the cannelloni microwaved semi-cold. Again no flavour. The biggest rubbish we've ever had. We had a few mouthfuls but yuck... We paid and left. I told the waitress she should eat the rest!

On the way home we went to McDonalds drive-thru and got 2 fillet-o-fish meals which was at least 200% better than the pizza restaurant.

I can't believe people are opening up restaurants and serving microwaved rubbish to customers they should be ashamed of themselves. How hard is it to make some pizza and pasta the proper old fashioned way?  We will not be fooled again.

There should be a hall of shame for what happened tonight.

Very disappointing! Has this happened to you?

Ewww, UFO I've just read back. You went to La Porcetta (sp)?

Well what do you expect? The last time I had a pizza there was 15 years ago, and it was as you describe.

With all the fine restaurants in Melbourne, you chose to take your wife there? If price is the issue (and it must be); with all the fine take away places in Melbourne who fed your wife there?

And lets face it, La Porcetta is no more than a bad takeaway joint - or an ethnic Sizzlers.

Try a pizza shop run by Greeks - they also make the best fish and chips 🙂

Went there cos we felt like pizza not because of the money lol.  The only fish & chip shop that we like in Melbourne is located in Burgundy St Heidelberg. The guy is Greek Cypriot and he makes it the best.  Outside of the Melbourne area the best one is on the pier at San Remo, just before Philip Island. It is a co-op owned fish and chip shop and the fish are caught daily. That one is the most awesome one but it is too far for a fish and chip night.

Re: Restaurants should be CHEF trained before opening

Sadly, most of the Greeks and Cypriots have sold their fish and chip shops to Asians. While Asians are fomne at cooking their own country's food - they really have not mastered fish and chips. I believe they use a cheaper oil because it tastes totally different. The one near my place was overtaken by Asians five years ago and they really scrimp on sizes too. The Greeks used to give me two free potato cakes with my order - huge pieces of flake - great spring rolls. Nowadays, often a third of my order is missing and the salt tastes funny, maybe it's MSG. *sighs* Melbourne is changing, and not for the better.

BTW, thanks for the info UFO. I travel to Philip Island regularly but usually have fish and chips on the Esplanade. I have just checked with my wife and she has heard of the San Remo place but doesn't remember the name. You wouldn't happen to know the name? Would love to check it out.

Next time you feel like pizza, try this joint http://www.farmvigano.com.au/

We should have gone there instead of Carlton. Drive down Plenty Rd, go past McDonalds Rd, turn right at the next traffic lights. It is a pizza shop on a farm.
