Joz, probably different for different reasons.
My girlfriend often gets given Cabcharge cards of fifty dollars that cover the whole cost.
She gives them to me.
Then makes me use them until nothing is left.
I think she feels that she's getting a free ride then but I wish she'd just keep them because it's still a free ride even if she hands the driver the card

YOU obviously dont live an hour or more drive away from WW etc and are NOT dependant on others to drive you 'cause there is NO public transport whatsoever    ........ If you did you may have a different attitude ........

I could only hope under certain circumstances as those you describe the aged person

has family or friends who care enough for them to offer to help those in difficult

circumstances. I would be the first to put my hand up to offer my help to anyone in need.

I would hope my attitude toward any needy folk would be applauded and not ASSUMED

to be indifferent as you have done here.

Re: Seniors hour

I think a lot of the oldies around here (those in late 70s and older) don't get up early, but there's nothing much for them to do so why bother? Most are in bed by 9pm around here!

There's a council bus that runs them to the nearest town with a Woolies supermarket (40km away) but it doesn't leave until about 10.30. I don't know who's allowed to use the bus.

Can't people still get a senior's card even if their income is over the limit for particular discounts? I suspect the stores didn't realise that some old people wouldn't have one.

You'd think we're facing a famine the way people are carrying on.

Re: Seniors hour

Thanks Freddie.

I have a feeling things will change by the end of the year as OH just scraped by his eye test to renew his drivers licence.  Next time will either be a Fail or restricted licence.

The Federal Government Seniors Card is very different to the State Government Seniors Card.

The Federal Government card is the one that is needed to access the special shopping hours.

The NSW Seniors Card is available to over 60s who work less than a certain number of hours a week...I have one but OH does not as he works too long.Smiley Sad

It does not help when your children and grandchildren live a 4 hour drive away either.

Most of my friends/neighbours are in the same boat.....we have all lived in the area for 50+ years and most no longer drive.

Re: Seniors hour

Most senior ppl I know are up early, because they just can't sleep longer, and like to get their business done by lunchtime, as energy levels flag by the afternoon.

Here in the Urban areas, pensioners get a great deal of government aid, such as domestic and social help in the form of carers, and community transport in the form of cabcharge and community buses to take them shopping or to  appointments.

I understand it's probably different in regional areas, but I'm sure there would be some level of access to community services.
