Can't people still get a senior's card even if their income is over the limit for particular discounts? I suspect the stores didn't realise that some old people wouldn't have one.

You'd think we're facing a famine the way people are carrying on.

The Federal Government Seniors Card is very different to the State Government Seniors Card.

The Federal Government card is the one that is needed to access the special shopping hours.

The NSW Seniors Card is available to over 60s who work less than a certain number of hours a week...I have one but OH does not as he works too long.Smiley Sad

I couldn't find anythng about Seniors card.

Woolworths Supermarkets is introducing temporary measures across its stores to help support the shopping needs of the elderly and people with disability in the community.

From tomorrow (Tuesday 17th March) until at least Friday, Woolworths Supermarkets will be opening exclusively for the elderly and those with a disability to shop from 7am to 8am, where permitted*.

The move has been prompted by the unprecedented demand in supermarkets over the past week, which has seen many elderly and vulnerable people in the community missing out on vital items they may need when they shop.

Woolworths Supermarkets will open to all customers from 8am. Access to the store prior to this time will require a relevant Government issued concession card*.

Seniors Card is mentioned about a third of the way down, just before the headline about long life milk.

"After witnessing "unprecedented consumer demand", staff at an IGA store in Altona, in Melbourne's west, became worried elderly people and those with a disability might not get the supplies they needed.

So anyone with a senior or disability card will be given "exclusive" access to the store, which is opening one hour early.

Woolworths is following suit. From tomorrow, its supermarkets will open from 7:00am to 8:00am exclusively for those two groups."

One would hope that if an 80 yo walked in without a card they'd be sensible enough to let them in.

Better.

But there's a reason I shop on-line.

I can't walk very far, or be on my feet for very long.

So, being a registered Senior's card holder for Woolies deliveries, why can't I get priority delivery?

I can't get a delivery spot for at least a week!

Re: Seniors hour

I imagine - the now number of online shoppers is causing delays.

They would have only so many delivery vehicles for each store etc.

Don't know really - haven't shopped for over a fortnight - except for fresh fruit & vegies.

Surely your daughter can pick those up for you  ..... Both bread and milk can be frozen and unsed when necessary or bought from another store

Most senior ppl I know are up early, because they just can't sleep longer, and like to get their business done by lunchtime, as energy levels flag by the afternoon.

Here in the Urban areas, pensioners get a great deal of government aid, such as domestic and social help in the form of carers, and community transport in the form of cabcharge and community buses to take them shopping or to  appointments.

I understand it's probably different in regional areas, but I'm sure there would be some level of access to community services.

Come off it Icy......I am not in the back of nowhere.....I can see Sydney Airport and the city skyline from my front door.

From experience it is often harder to access community services in the city/suburbs than it is in country areas and it is certainly quite expensive.

My father accessed community carers....at 92 he was allowed 3 hours a week over 5 weekdays so 36 minutes a day.  It was barely enough to heat his meals on wheels and supervise his middle of the day medications.

More often than not he was dozing when they arrived so they just sat there and watched him for the allotted time.

I also can't walk very much and standing in one place causes agony in no time.  I am housebound so a seniors shopping hour is useless to me.  It is also no good for my mother because although she is any early riser, for health reasons (time for medication to act etc) she is not comfortable about leaving the house until at least 10am.  At 7am she'd also have difficulty getting someone to take her.

Woolies in VIC have CANCELLED all online delivery and click and collect orders until further notice.  I got the message last night and confirmed it with Woolies customer service this morning.  No exceptions.
