True, but those people would qualify as disabled no matter what their age.

If people can qualify on age alone then the proof needed should be a proof of age only not proof of any other benefits being received.

This gets hard - nowhere has the disability pension been mentioned.

Only the elderly - aged.

For between 7 & 8.

There should be no determination of cards - simply proof - as if anyone in that aged bracket needs it - age.

Go shopping.

Sheesh.

I take my Mum grocery shopping weekly since she had a fall and was hospitalized for some weeks.

Since the virus though, my sister insists she stays put, as to lessen exposure and I agree, so this week is out. So, I'm thinking I will be doing the shopping by myself,

but have to compete with shelves that are stripped and can't get a lot of what she might need?

Do you have a carer's card? From what was said on the news, they qualify.

After witnessing "unprecedented consumer demand", staff at an IGA store in Altona, in Melbourne's west, became worried elderly people and those with a disability might not get the supplies they needed.

So anyone with a senior or disability card will be given "exclusive" access to the store, which is opening one hour early.

Woolworths is following suit. From tomorrow, its supermarkets will open from 7:00am to 8:00am exclusively for those two groups.

So that would be the Pensioner Concession Card (which is what's issued for the Disability Support Pension).

No, not a carer's card. How do I get one?

Re: Seniors hour

First, do you live with your mother full time?

If not you are unlikely to qualify as a carer.

And you have to prove that you look after her 24/7. with loss of your own salary

And on how to get one?

You have to go through Centre Link or My AgedCare or Social Security or Human Resources or whatever the hill they call themselves nowadays.

Best of luck   with that.   It's a looong windy road.

I know as Ive been there.

Re: Seniors hour

I reckon I'd get a foot in the door, metaphorically speaking, walking with a stick, as I do.

The one thing I'd do, though, is quietly caution the nice staff member at the door not to judge a book by it's cover...

How many otherwise able bodied people do you think are going to try the "Bung leg" routine, so they can get in "ahead of the crowds"?

Hmm?

"Welcome to the supermarket... You'll find that most of the shelves are fully stocked, but unfortunately, there's still a shortage of honesty...".

That's the bit I quoted earlier, but it doesn't  mention anything about needing a concession card if you're a senior.  I wouldn't trust the news reporters to have got it right anyway.  I expect the store is just trying to do their best by elderly people and will accept anyone who can prove they're a senior, or anyone who can prove they have a disability.  I honestly can't see the staff going through too much rigmarole because they just won't have the time.  If 500 people turn up on the doorstep at 7am it'd be easy for someone to slip in once their backs are turned and they're serving someone else.

Re: Seniors hour

ABC radio is conducting a call in on how day 1 of the 'early shopping hours' has gone

all callers are reporting shelves empty of stock, a waste of their effort getting up early.

a poorly thought out offer, NOT HAPPY JAN.
