I think maybe many people have been considering how long quarantine has been in Wuhan and so are over time stockpiling if similar happens here - the thinking likely  is that if such long time quarantine does not eventuate - what does it matter ? , the long life food and consumables would have been used anyhow

Of course to bad about those who have been left lacking.

However i have been surprised of the legal looting - such a large proprtion of society already lives a life style not far different from that of quaratine ....

Nobody in Wuhan was left starving, or even hungry. They put in their order and the food was delivered to their door and left outside.

People don't need to hoard six months or a year's worth of supplies. I almost wish some would be confined to their homes until they've used all the stuff they've bought.

Brer, didn't the Government do that for them.
We live in a capatilist society.
The Government isn't going to feed us, not that I'm justifying what people are doing

I have no idea who organised it. In Italy people are allowed to go to the supermarkets so I'd imagine it'd be the same here if we went into lockdown (as many doctors are begging the govt to do). I just hope I'd never be forced to shop at the local supermarket.

One would hope that if an 80 yo walked in without a card they'd be sensible enough to let them in.

How about 77 years old.

There are a lot of 70+ year olds who do not have government cards of any description but they still need to access the shops.

If age is going to be a criteria then accept any legitimate proof of age document otherwise it is discrimination.

And what about helper shoppers , those younger who have been tasked to shop for the elder person.

They can fend for themselves in the aisles.

Older weaker people are being pushed aside by the panic merchants.

Not easy to do if they are also trying to look after the person they are caring for as well

Aw c'mon.  I was thinking along the lines of someone who was doing the shopping for the elderly person left at home.

But you knew that.

I think a lot of it, stawks, is that people with no idea think they have an idea.

I've just managed to put in an on-line order with Woolies.

They say they will try to fill it, but there may be some out of stock items....really?

I've been ordering for years, so I got 'exclusive access' apparently.  (or did I?)

Only problem I had, was I ordered 2 differnt pastas.  They made me take one out.

Delivery is not until next Monday, (I'm away for the w/end) so we'll see what happens.
