Streaming Comparisons

On the advice of my children (because I know nothing) we signed up for the netflix free trial

Might rethink our foxtel package

It depends on your connection and device.  The better quality the connection is,  and the higher the definition of the TV or device you're conecting with is, the more data you can consume per hour.

Re: Streaming Comparisons

Also a few ISP/RSP's have recently increased data allowances in their plans and kept the cost the same, in advance of Netflix being available in Australia.

We got 10GB's more anytime of day/night and 40GB more off peak (midnight -7am which isn't a lot of use here, unless you want to stay up all night watching movies!).

There are SD And HD plans too.. so not too fast a connection go for Standard Definition?

Re: Streaming Comparisons

In fact it depends on the type of package that you sign up for

The graphic is for 56 minutes at HD resolution apox. 1000 Mb per hour at 19Mbps  if you have less than that speed and you have the HD version then you will get buffering

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings

NBN was a big factor [for launching in Australia].

NBN’s what got us to think ‘let’s get in there and go now’, and it’s really viable from a technology standpoint.

With NBN, Australia has jumped to be one of the leaders in the world in internet infrastructure,” says Reed Hastings.

My son signed up tonight too.  I think he said it was $11 a month and he can stream to me but I'm not good at this stuff.  I just watch whatever's on tv but I'll have to get my head around the way things are going. It seems I am now the older generation.

Re: Streaming Comparisons

$11.99 a month is for 2 viewing at same time, standard definition.

I think it will be easy to use, just signing up now for free trial.

Re: Streaming Comparisons

Yes it is easy to use, just log in and select what you want to watch

the first time you log in it asks you to select 3 shows and based on what you select netflix suggest a list of what you may want to watch

once you are watching something you can pause it and go back to where you left off next time you log in or select something different

There were ads on the radio this morning, as long as there are no long term contracts involved then the consumer is going to win for a change.
