The Death Penalty, as a deterrent.
As there seems to be widely differing views on this subject it may be an idea to discuss it here instead of in the other thread involving real people..
Are you in favour of the Death Penalty or do you oppose it.
If you are in favour , in which circumstances should it be imposed.
If you are not in favour, are there any exceptions to your opposition?

Pepe, unless they are capable of changing their mind they are intransigent and will stand by their belief no matter what,. that is what i said.
I accept that and no where did say that I did not accept it.
I also accept that people people may have a differing viewpoint, that is their choice entirely.
However there are some who have not thought through deeply enough about their intransigent viewpoint.

how do you know how much thought has gone into another person's opinion?
it seems to me you think if someone disagrees with you they are wrong.
Some people have very strong feelings about some matters, there is nothing wrong with that.

pepe, nowhere have I said that any person is right or wrong, and i have never contemplated how much thought anyone applies to anything, that is their choice.
I have witnessed the strong feelings of some people have, entirely their own choice 🙂

what difrence does it make?, we are all gonna die anyway. I'm in favor of it for me rather than freeze in a cement and steel holding cell completly nude, no blanket, only a rug. I would venture that if they put up a volunteer list for those doing life in prison, or long jail times, that list would fill up so fast, they would have to expand the facilities and staff

Being capable of changing your mind does not imply that you are therefore obliged to do so, simply because someone else believes you should. Have you ever thought of changing yours?

The problem is, Pepe, we - as mere mortals - are not psychic. We can only base our assumptions on what people actually say, not on what they think they said.

ELE no where have I said that or implied that.
I have changed my viewpoint on matters as new and convincing data comes to hand.

You did read it correctly, and i stand by that statement 🙂
Perhaps you might like to read it again.
It is evident to me that some people engage their mouth before engaging their thought processes thoroughly.

Whenever there is a call for the return of capital punishment here (UK), the hand wringers and do-gooders are up in arms, claiming that innocent people could be wrongfully hanged. They quote two individuals who were later found to have been wrongly executed. They were Timothy Evans (1950), and Derek Bentley (1953). That was way before DNA. It shouldn't be possible to make the same mistake today.
The former of the two cases above, prompted the abolition of capital punishment in 1965.
