The Death Penalty, as a deterrent

The Death Penalty, as a deterrent.

As there seems to be widely differing views on this subject it may be an idea to discuss it here instead of in the other thread involving real people..

Are you in favour of the Death Penalty or do you oppose it.

If you are in favour , in which circumstances should it be imposed.

If you are not in favour, are there any exceptions to your opposition?

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: The Death Penalty, as a deterrent

pepe in the last scenario the person who strongly disagrees with the death penalty is put in a situation where they have to be judge, jury and executioner within 10 seconds. They impose the penalty of death and even carry it out, .............if they press the button.

Keeping in mind that the person strongly disagrees with the death penalty

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

How do you arrive at that Pepe?

Terminating a life means ending it does it not?

The ending of life is death is it not?

The death penalty is a sentence prescribed by law,  passed by a judge and carried out by a professional executioner in order to punish  someone for committing a crime. The primary - indeed the sole -  purpose of the exercise is to kill the criminal

In your button-pushing scenario the primary objective is to save the child by rendering the murderer incapable of killing again. If that objective is acheived, then whether or not the murderer dies is immaterial.

I have read all the comments, and i will start with ele first..

If one or all of you children broke every bone in your body and ripped out ever finger and toe nail continuously for years, would your unconditional love endure all that time?

I dont want an answer and your answer is for you and you alone..

Seriously Poddster? What a ridiculous question. You must have odd kids if that even enters your mind.

I agree but Bob isn't that good at it either.  Red wine psychology in Poddsters case I suspect.

J just because it is improbable does not mean that it is impossible.

The scenario illustrates that conditions are placed on everything.

For example people go to work on condition that they get a remuneration for doing so.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: The Death Penalty, as a deterrent

having fun there pods?! Smiley LOL

if i were put in that situation, i'd hesitate to press the button, coz, i would get locked up for taking the law into my own hands.

and, instead of blowing 10 seconds contemplating this, i'd prefer to king hit the perpetrator, & then let the law deal with it

Signatures suck.

I think  Pods posts,  have highlighted the fact that discussing real people and events is required when discussing this topic.

Abortion is the killing of the truly innocent.

which is legal to do here. i believe it should be leagalised 'everywhere', a woman needs that choice performed by a professional in a safe clean environment. coz some will have it done anyway

Well I don't think so, unless it's a case of rape or deformity. At least, if it's legalised, it shouldn't be funded by the health system.

Anyway, better stick to the topic.

there are so many other factors and good reasons why they should have that option to abort

whether opinions are opposed or not. its their business. accidents and lack of education preventing it from happening in the first place.

some young chicks simply don't have access to that information

mmmhhhh one good reason would be that the man used the pull out method eh? *giggle*

Re: The Death Penalty, as a deterrent

Not to anyone in particular...

My humble view......and again only if guilt is proven beyond all doubt.

You take a life for anything other than self defence...........you pay with your life.

These guys did not take any lives, however, the krap they tried to smuggle into Australia would have, and not only one!

The law of land is the law decided by that land......

So here is something to think about.....

In some countries it is acceptable as a punishment to stone a woman to death for adultory.......now, if that someone and his wife were

visitors to Australia, and the man stoned his wife to death, would we accept that as their way, or would we impose our punishment for murder?
