The Federal 2013 Election Thread

Hey everyone...

So, we all know theres an election coming up!

September the 14th is the big day. Like mentioned, plenty of time for us all to plan for that date.

Also means its going to be a looooooong campaign.

For the peace of the board, so everything else doesnt get pushed down by debates on policies and dirt and gossip (and digs at each other personally) etc, can we at all perhaps try to contain as much as we can in a thread much like this?

Theres bound to be plenty of healthy debate (particularly by a few members well known for their strong stance and support for a certain party) and its always easier to follow it etc in one place.

Should be an interesting year ahead! I know I for one am looking forward to it!

How do you expect the Government to please everyone?

I like Amy Winehouse and her music a lot so probably would notice it in the news far more than

Yom Kippur

I see that you can vote early due to religious reasons preventing you of voting on the day...
Like I said, I dont see what the issue is...
Well apart from some politicians I guess or their employees.

Re: The Federal 2013 Election Thread

I doubt it will as well but one can only hope.

In a sense for me, it would be good if people did as I would be considered a swing voter and if someone is trying to convince you why voting one way might be better, then it would make sense to keep it in a more centralized location to help it be as clear as possible....and having the courage and patience in allowing others to have a debate about an alternative view or opinion. Some might claim they have no intention of trying to convince another poster to vote a certain way but we all know there are a few that do, actively on all sides of politics.

That and the sense of respect for the community and its spirit in not clogging the boards with political campaigns and allowing other topics of discussion to happen without the threat of being pushed into oblivion and unseen and forgotten.

Considering the Election has been called so early, I figure there is going to be a lot of coverage everywhere about it with many opinons etc shared,...a lot of which on these boards.

I personally like the political threads but I just dont have time to keep up with them all and sometimes reading a few at a time, it can get confusing with who is replying to who about what and where and why.

On a side note, I cannot believe the amount of stories out there in the papers, on the news, radio etc about it all. From the glasses to the timing to the oppositions point and position to rumours and whispers to to to etc Theres a story for it all!

I truly believe its going to be a very politically exciting year.

Im very interested in hearing policies, seeing how each party campaigns etc...Who will play dirty, who fair. Should be fun!

The election will clash with the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur - a fact Liberal frontbencher Malcolm Turnbull said was deeply disappointing.

โ€œThis disenfranchises many Jewish Australians and is incredibly sloppy work,โ€ added Liberal Josh Frydenberg.

But Ms Gillard said this couldn't be helped.

She had always intended to serve a full term and, given the football finals, there were only a limited number of dates available.     [ :^O]

โ€œI do understand the significance of the day in question for the Jewish community. But there would be many of my Melbourne Jewish friends who would also understand the significance of AFL grand final day,โ€ Ms Gillard said.

Highly unlikely I will keep it in here...but don't worry  I will probably go elsewhere.. away from these boards...

I find it very difficult to have a conversation with a lot of posters in this tread.... and it is not because I disagree with them...  Az and I vote differently but I can have a great debate with her... LL for example I will probably end up putting on ignore... lol

we will see what the tone ends up being.

The reason for this early calling of the next election was to fend off the imminent challenge from Rudd & to keep her promise to the Greens & Independant's to go full term otherwise they would have pulled support.

There is always an ulterior motive to all Ms Gillards political schemes & here it is.

Also, it looks like Roxon is re drafting the discrimination laws due to the immense backlash to it.

This will be an election year where all election politicking will be under the guise of working govt. but it will be election politicking on the public purse, therefore relieving the unions of using their election war chest money.

The more you look at this move the more it becomes clear we are being shafted again by this leader for her own grasp on power at all costs.

hahaha.. it looks like Gillard didn't tell her own cabinet about calling an election  but she did call up the independents and the Greens and tell them.....

nice to see how she treats her own...
