WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

My starter performed magnificently; I had the RH word within 2 seconds.

It also gave me the shape of the LH word; it was just a case of working out two letters. I used an eliminator to narrow things down, and made my guess in the 4th row.

Bot says I was very lucky as there were some other possible answers.

As you can see, I 'went for it' on turn 3 and didn't get it. 

The 4th was a guess too, and after I stopped to think about it, there were some 'better guesses' I might have gone for if I had thought of them. 😁 Ah well, the luck has to be with me sometimes!

I drove arrow-straight to my first guess, partially because we have seen this word so often in Wordle. It was a bit of a shock to see all greens!

Well, that was certainly a piece of good luck.

TRACE, with SPOIL as my 2nd row eliminator, gave me just enough to start solving 3L and then 4R and 4L. Knowing the presence (and position) or absence of L was pivotal.

Then I could essay 2R and 2L. (Yes, 2R has been seen frequently.)

I could also solve 1R now, knowing 4 of the letters, and the initial letter needed for that gave away 3R as well.

It was now just a matter of solving 1L. As I knew 2 letters which could NOT take 3rd position, that ruled out several possibilities, so it was time for me to gauge the answer.

Ah, one of the variations so beloved by the puzzle makers.

As soon as I saw my 2 yellows and had a little think, I suspected how it might be.

Unfortunately, I couldn't think of any eliminator word that covered more than 3 of the variations, so i picked one in reserve and tried to go for it on turn 2 with a different variation.

One can always *hope*.

It wasn't to be. The eliminator at turn 3 didn't solve it either. Then there were still a couple of choices but I think this one came out on octordle some time back?

Yes… Wordle today was unfair; solving it early depended entirely upon the eliminator because of the various possibilities.
