WORDLE - anyone else trying the daily online word game?

I recently stumbled across WORDLE online.  For the uninitiated, it is a daily word guessing game where you have to try to guess the word in 6 or less tries.

https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

This, from Wikipedia, explains the game:

Every day, a five-letter word is chosen which players aim to guess within six tries. After every guess, each letter is marked as either green, yellow or gray: green indicates that letter is correct and in the correct position, yellow means it is in the answer but not in the right position, while gray indicates it is not in the answer at all. The game has a "hard mode" option, which requires players to include letters marked as green and yellow in subsequent guesses. The daily word is the same for everyone. The game also has a dark mode as well as a high-contrast theme for colourblind accessibility, which changes the color scheme from green and yellow to orange and blue.

This abc news story has some tips for playing:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-26/why-wordle-has-become-a-new-online-obsession/100782794

I have found that most that most days I can get the daily word in 5 tries or less (mostly 5 though).  Interestingly, there is a spinoff of WORDLE called LEWDLE, where the words are lewd, or naughty, words.  I have better success with LEWDLE than I do with WORDLE . . . getting the word in just 2 or 3 attempts.  Not sure what that says about my private school education 🤣

You'd think, to look at the results, that #1 &2 were my biggest challenges but I had my suspicions about them very early and left them to concentrate on other words.

I felt as if 6, 7 & 8 were repeats, although we haven't seen a dance move out for a while, I guess.

I did get tripped up with #5

Spoiler
I tried apply instead of amply

My eliminator prevented me from falling into that same trap at 3L (your #5).

My 4L really stumped me for some time.

But I’m not really at my best, so I’m not surprised.

TRACE as starter was dismal this time; it happens. I had a better 2nd row eliminator, and I made a guess that was almost right. Almost butters no spinach, though.

You're early today! I finished my two a few minutes ago, before logging on.

I was lucky to get wordle.

I just couldn't think of anything and tried ganja in 3rd spot. I was so focussed on the greens I forgot I had G in yellow and tried manna next.

My first reaction when I finally got the answer was -what?

But it all comes back, this was an octordle answer (or one of the puzzles anyway) quite some time ago and I didn't know the word then & remember looking up the meaning later.

At least I didn't make any stupid mistakes like in wordle where I totally forgot having a letter.

But I did make 2 wrong guesses that were logical enough. Just not the answers.

Spoiler
I tried felon instead of lemon, and curry instead of curvy.

Hmm. In spite of the 52, this felt uncomfortable and precarious to solve. TRACE wasn’t an ideal starter this time, but together with MOUND as my 2nd row eliminator, it was enough to get started.

HAZEL 🔟7️⃣ GIRTH
LEMON 4️⃣6️⃣ BONUS
MOTIF 8️⃣9️⃣ STAIR
CURVY 5️⃣3️⃣ CLUNG

4R might have been CHUNK; luckily I was right.

I was safe with LEMON.

4L might have been CURRY or CURBS (but I discount plurals from consideration). Luck again.

2R seemed inevitable after working out that the shape must be _ONU_ …

1R could only have had I as a vowel, and a few moments showed that GIR was probably the start.

3L with its MO start must surely have the T following with I after that.

3R was obvious.

1L was a “most likely”. HAZEL wasn’t the only possibility but the other possibilities were not likely, and I’ve not seen them pop up in Octordle before.

A soft but unrelenting rain is casting itself upon the grass outside. Darkness twines itself around shadows and the shifting half-blind gleam of distant light. A faint thrumming purrs overhead - an aeroplane settling lower towards Tullamarine after dark aching distances from far-off places, subsiding now until all I can hear is my quiet breathing and the deep, soft, wet fall of rain.

SKATE 5️⃣8️⃣ RHINO
REPEL 3️⃣🕚 HOWDY
STAID 4️⃣7️⃣ SKIFF
STANK 6️⃣🔟 MOSSY

… but after RHINO I couldn’t guess either of the two remaining words.

For 2R, I had H ( not in 2nd position), O (not in 3rd or 5th position, and D (not in 5th position).

For 4R, I had S (not 1st position) and O (neither 3rd nor 5th position).

I strongly suspected they both ended with Y. 4R was probably _OSSY. (Either MOSSY or BOSSY.)

2R could be HOBBY… but there were other possibilities.

I played GUMBO.

Then I knew that 4R was MOSSY, and 2R had to be HOWDY. Rather weird, but that’s what it had to be.

You were really lucky with that guess, you took a risk but it paid off well.

I was in a somewhat similar position to you (though better off as I had 2 yellows U & N, but my green S was the same) but I wasn't game to make a stab at it. I was thinking sunny, skunk, swung, maybe even snuff. In the end, I used funky as 3rd guess to try to cut out some possibilies.

I had actually thought sunny was the most likely answer but funky ruled it out, thank goodness.
