LL a person does not get addicted by accident, it is a conscious choice to partake of addictive substances.

Its like putting your arm in a grinder on purpose and then expecting to be waited on hand and foot for the rest of your days

thats a ridiculous anology only exceeded by the break -in one you tend to use on every asylum seeker thread. lose the simplistic alleged logic, it hampers real analysis.

but that is a genuine condition . it is an illness..

prejudice is unhelpful,  what if i were to say all suffering from MI should be first on the list ? does it have any more or less validity as a point ?

lol.. I don't care if it is an illness, get over it... go get help.. why should the taxpayer have to pay for anyone to have a drug addiction?

Are we talking about addicts here or big business and the upper middle class?

I wonder if obesity is considered to be self inflicted and if you are too large/unable to work whether the government considers it a disability? After all, it is an addiction, isn't it?

full of hard questions Donna Smiley Happy ?  the effects of obesity, chronic diabetes etc are grounds for eligibility . as is emphysema , lung cancer etc.

so eventually legal lifestyle choices or hereditary conditions related to obesity would be grounds.

and it is not prejudice, I had an addiction and I never went on welfare. Why should they get a free ride just because they know how to play the system?

I could not get on it when I was unable to work. I could not even walk three house blocks with arthritis and was told that BiPolar did not mean I could not work even though at that time with both conditions flaring up I couldn't. I even had two doctors and two specialists to back me up... Yet have a drug addiction and you get the tick.

That proves how hard it is to be eligible for a disability pension.

Now there's some great ideas. Force someone to travel 2 hours each way to a job they don't like, while denying someone living closer who would like the job, and keeping them as a dole statistic.
But I suppose it's seen as "doing something".

If there really were these thousands upon thousands of mythical proper jobs just going begging, we wouldn't have this situation in the first place. The ones with "attitude" who don't really want to work, are merely reducing the genuine competition for the few jobs the many are seeking.

Yes, I have an opinion. No you don't have to agree with it. Yes I do have a right to it.

The ones who are ripping off the welfare system for all they are worth.

You know the ones that think that the world owes them a living, the ones who have never done a days work in their lives and have no intention to.

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Honestly how is it fair to target those on a disability support pension?  These types of  pensions are NOT given out willy nilly.

Donna, by your presence here I am concluding that you did not watch Bolt's program, or at least if you did you did not get caught 🙂

I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I did actually watch it as my husband had not arrived home from the Mardi Gras poddy lol

He is quite well spoken isn't he? I thought he was wrong to compare attacks on Juliar Gillard for being female with attacks on Tony Abbott for being dreadful at his job. That is what I thought.

Those who negative gear.
Small business owners that claim all and sundry even though the claimed amounts are not used for deriving income.
Lift the capital gains tax to where it was.
Dump the health care rebate for households on $200,000 or more.
Ditch the mining industry handouts.
Phase out the private employnent agencies and bring back the CES.That whole industry is a big fat scam. Its costing the taxpayer billions

There,I've just improved the bottom line by at least $17 billion.
