Why Australia's Target stores had to close
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-05-23/what-caused-target-australias-downfall/12277400
when it comes to shopping in stores like big-w, target or k-mart do shoppers really care what name is over the door?
or is it the prices on the shelves?
if k-marts prices are generally lower than targets then just fill the target stores with the same stock as k-mart and at the same prices seems to be a solution.
save money on all that rebranding of stores.
just how many million $s does repainting and new signage ect ect cost to remove all the target stuff and put k-mart things in their place?
now, can we see a list of stores closing and a list of rebranded stores please?
we have a local target store so im interested.

In my experience, the products on sale in the different shops have not been exactly the same.
Years back we had a Big W here and the quality of the clothes, especially children's clothes, was better than K mart products. They were dearer though.
I find target a tad better than K mart too in the range and quality.
I guess if the bottom line is just the price, then K mart wins out, but you're not always comparing apples with apples, that's the problem.

Give me 'Target' over CameApart any day
Unless the name change also means a quality and value for money change too, rather than just more stores selling cheap and nasty

It's all to do with the quality or the lack thereof. Both stores have let it slide so what do they expect.

the company has stated they are rebadging to kmart because that brand is doing much better than the target brand
but i agree, its quality and prices that customers go after not the sign over the door.
so switching the stock in target stores to kmart stock should bring the customers back?
if people are happy to buy kmart items at kmart prices.

My son went to Target a few days ago for the first time in a couple of years. He wanted to buy a pair of shoes. He said the shoes he liked were only fair quality, as he expected from Target, but were selling for over $100. He said it didn't make sense because the quality was the same, but the prices were higher. I've noticed Big W's reputation seems to be growing whereas Target's has dropped away. You'd think the very highly paid Target CEO's would have excellent business sense!

That probably means it will stay open as Target, and not close or be re-branded to Kmart.

well now i'm confuddled (nothing new there)
i thought they wer closing Target stores and either rebranding them as K-marts or just closing them
i now think its just "some" stores involved, not "all" stores.
is that right?
