Why are Atheists so militant, strident and intolerant of people with religious beliefs?

You just need to look at Pol Pot, Stalin and Mao ZeDong.

How do they know there's no God? It's just a belief system.

I rarely take part in religious or political threads coz I don't care enough about either (no disrespect nor offence intended to anyone for personal choices in both, I do respect your rights).

As a kid I went to Sunday school - I had 2 questions:

If we all came from Adam and Eve, why are there so many different races in our world ?

Why is Christmas always on the 25th Dec each year (the date of his birth) yet Easter (the date of his death 25  years later) changes every year?

I didn't get an answer that made sense....

Specifically, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the full Moon that occurs on or just after the spring equinox.

But why? Why not just a 'date' ?

That's what I could never wrap my head around.

My grandmother passed (years ago) on 12th April, that's the same date every year.

It is a bit weird - the dates being based on the Jewish lunar calendar.

The Jews don't believe in the divinity of Jesus - so why use their calendar.

Why not a fixed date.

Yeah, I vaguely remember something about the calendars, but the calandar thing never made sense cos he obviously died AFTER he was born (as we all do, bit hard otherwise) so I couldn't get how the 'later' calandar was less able to reflect dates correctly than the earlier one.

Any way, something for me to ponder for 3 seconds. Smiley Very Happy

Because you can't have Easter on any other day of the week, that's why.

OK Let's say a date - April 12th as you put it.

If it falls on a Wednesday, is it still Good Friday, the day he supposedly died?

Then Easter Sunday - 3 days later for the Resurrection - would be on a Friday.

Even more confusing than the current system, eh?

It's all to do with the full moon.

I thought my post cleared that up

Specifically, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the full Moon that occurs on or just after the spring equinox. (Northern Hemisphere obviously)

Nothing Jewish about that explanation - just following the phases of the moon - nature

When is PassoverPassover takes place in early spring during the Hebrew calendar month of Nissan, as prescribed in the book of Exodus. Exodus 12:18 commands that Passover be celebrated, “from the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.”
