Why are we blaming Hockey and Abott?

Obviously the money has got to come from somewhere. Where do you want to take it from???

They had credit cards? Under 25, no job? Okay.

No, they have a credit card because they did have jobs. They have mortgages too.

One of my girls bought her house at 19 (no credit card there), the other in her mid 20s (credit card there for emergencies).

Of those I shared with 2 are now buying a house, 2 are renting somewhere else and one has returned home to study for a while.

The truth is often funny.

Usually in an offbeat kind of way.

Nevynreally wrote re the Dole: It's about able bodied people who could work or study if they choose to apply themselves. Or do the community programs, work for the dole. Oh, that's probably dirty words around here. Something for nothing seems to be what's owed.

Have you read about the proposed changes ?

Federal budget 2014: Young to wait until 25 to get dole

Young people wishing to sign onto the dole will be forced to wait six months before they receive a cent of government money, after which they will have to work for the dole for another six months before either getting a job, or getting cut off again for another six months.

From January 1 next year, all under-30s who want to sign onto the dole (Newstart) or Youth Allowance ''Other'' (the present, lesser payment for unemployed people up to 22) will be subject to the new system, which will save the budget $1.2 billion over four years and which is aimed at getting the young ''earning or learning''.

In addition to the six-month waiting period, the eligibility age for Newstart will rise from 22 to 25 years. Newstart is worth about $45 more a week for a single person living apart from their parents than the Young Allowance ''Other'' payment.

So why don't they have those jobs now? Did they purchase on their own? Without partners? Were any partners working at the time? Do you think Newstart should pay their mortgages?

Re: Why are we blaming Hockey and Abott?

The dole is not about "deaf kids" and I do actually have one. It's about able bodied people who could work or study if they choose to apply themselves. Or do the community programs, work for the dole. Oh, that's probably dirty words around here. Something for nothing seems to be what's owed.

Why discriminate against a deaf youth? The Govt is.

If they are able to attend TAFE (with an interpreter) and get an academic qualification, which leads to a job, then why should they be denied that interpreter and  have to remain on a Govt benefit.

It is about getting people off the dole, if a youth is deaf, they should have the same opportunities as an abled bodied person to learn.

Work for the dole programs are going to be compulsory under the new budget changes.. haven't you read that yet? I have not seen one person here, say anything negative about work for the dole programs (as long as it is meaningful work, and also how much will it cost to run those programs? 257 000 unemployed youth.. need a lot of programs/places).

Re: Why are we blaming Hockey and Abott?

No, I didn't forget what I posted. Govt says earn or learn, at the same time they are busy cutting courses and services at their Learning institutions.. including interpreters for the deaf.

Someone then mentioned it is not about the deaf. Why discriminat?, abled bodied youth, deaf youth, they both should have the chance to study & learn. This is now not possible for a deaf student...due to cuts in services.

Cut education & training courses & services.. tell youth you must earn or learn.. does the left hand of power know what the right hand is doing?
