Obviously the money has got to come from somewhere. Where do you want to take it from???

How much has the price of food gone up since 'a few years' ago.
Did you go around to a parents house and eat any meals there?
Just 1 week. I ate pretty healthy for that week and no starving at all.
I kept a diary. Now it's probably $30 equivalent I'm guessing.
Only counted once going to mum and dads.
And you paid rent, utilities and travelling expenses out of that same $20 I suppose?

That is simply not true. The area I live in has the highest youth unemployment in NSW.
Where are the jobs??
BHP Steel Mills had massive redundancies in the 1980's
The Uni is the biggest employer in the region.. jobs there are highly sort afte, they don't employ young inexperienced youth.
A entry level retail job at a major discount store attracts around 3000 applicants (yes, for 1 position).
Casual, seasonal work is the best one could hope for.. a few hours a week, drops right off in winter.

No they don't, they become countries who can't provide for the needy (pensioners, unemployed, etc)

To a certain extent I'm not. My mortgage is enough debt for me.
I don't mind the level of Australia's debt. It's manageable and doesn't need to be paid for by taking from the poor and the sick and the elderly.
I am quite surprised at the attitude of some on this thread, who I know for a fact have lived off welfare and in public housing for many, many years and yet they appear to approve of this budget and the actions of this government.

I don't agree with that opinion. Mainly because jobs just aren't 'there' anymore. Even academic quals are no help a lot of the times in securing a job, employers want work experience as well.
I've worked with young people and had my daughters looking for work.
Both children moved away from home for work. One spent months doing temp work that required 2+ hours travel each way (by car, no PT available in time). I shared a house with 20 somethings. Some lost their jobs and had to find a new one. Not a single one of the young ones I know could be called be described as not wanting to work. They all like the money too much and hate not earning.

16,500 public servants to lose their jobs, do they just walk out the door, and get another one? Where will they find one, with that many people out of work.
In Canberra, 1000's of people out of work will only spend money on basic necessities, the flow on affect from that will cause other employers to cut staff...more unemployed.

Yes, the majority of youth do want to work, freaki. More than a couple of hours here and there with casual work too, if they aren't studying full time.
Recently I have seen medical receptionist jobs being advertised as casual, intermediate accountant (years of experience required) job starting salary $40 000 (that would go along way to paying of ones student debt, not). They will get applicants simply because there are more job seekers than jobs.
