I am appauled this has happened. Apparently he brought both on his private plane without declaring them and so avoiding quarantine. It looks like he will be allowed to send them home rather than being destroyed but I really think he should cop a massive fine .I cannot believe that he was unaware that we do not allow them
I hope they are healthy
He has really lost my support on this although apparently 2000 pepople have signed a change petition to allow them to stay....IDIOTS

Nearly zero, isn't good enough, is the problem. People who don't understand why quarantine laws exist, should be informed why they are important, not just fined. If Mr. Depp insists on filming somewhere else he would be being rather selfish, I don't think he would disrupt everything/everyone on the film.
As for the dogs having had all their relevant shots etc., well, let's hope so. It would be terrible if the U.S. authorities had them destroyed after they return home. I expect the worst though is quarantine.

The point he was making is that Barnaby is a govt minister not a radio shock jock and as such should have used more appropriate language and diplomacy.
The actual point is that even if you've been voted the world's sexiest man TWICE doesn't give you the right to bypass the laws of the country you are entering.
Animal quarantine laws in Australia apply to everyone.
Even manimals like Kyle Sandilands.
No, the point Kyle Sandilands was making is that Barnaby Joyce should use language fitting of a Minister of the Australian Government, not as a radio shock jock.
KS agreed that the quarantine rules should have been followed and was making the point about the minister, not about Depp.
I do not need you to rewrite my comments thanks.
and what language would that be?
The language that you personally would prefer?
Something a little more "plummy" maybe.
tt's strine maaaate you dohne like eat then faaaarkof
Which minister is going to be representative of the blokes and sheilas that talk just like Barnaby?
Don't tell me you would prefer we hide us mob away.... to make a good impression.
Hyacinth would be proud
...well..thanks but no thanks....... There is a little too much Onslow in me
Barnaby's constituents is who Barnaby needs to represent first and foremost.

http://keepingupappearances.wikia.com/wiki/Onslow
Onslow is a fictional character in the British 1990s comedy series Keeping Up Appearances portrayed by actor Geoffrey Hughes.
Onslow is a lower class relative of the social-climbing snob, Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced bouquet).
He is married to Hyacinth's sister Daisy; their surname is never mentioned.
Onslow is everything his sister-in-law Hyacinth despises, and threatens her social-climbing efforts (though they do interact in nice ways toward one another: kissing - though accidently - in The Father Christmas Suit, and dancing together in Sea Fever) .
He is an overweight and unemployed man who earns his money through betting on horses, spends his time drinking beer, eating crisps and smoking cigarettes, and watching television.
On many occasions he watches horse racing, and one of the repeated elements of comedy is his method of operating his ancient TV set by banging on it. Onslow describes himself as "work-shy, bone idle, and out of condition" and has been known to ponder "the inconvenience of working."
Whenever Onslow is unpleasantly surprised by something, such as running out of beer or being insulted, he usually retorts with his sarcasticcatchphrase,
"Oh, nice!"
When Hyacinth is on one of her many missions to impress upper-class people or neighbours, it is always Onslow
(with either Daisy, Rose, or "Daddy" or all of them at the same time;"Daddy" is a rarity, and Daisy and Rose are more common)
who turn up in a clapped-out Ford Cortina that backfires loudly every time it starts or stops, embarrassing Hyacinth, crushing her hopes of creating that perfect impression.

The story was on Tv here last night, Campbell live program, John Campbell thought it was really funny and Barnaby Joyce was a cool guy.

I think a certain standard of behaviour is required of a Minister who is dealing with other countries......and Onslow is not representative of that.
The Dept of Ag gave Depp's dogs an export licence, so they should be ok on return to the US. Given he travels with them, I would expect the dogs have had all their vaccinations, including rabies.

“With regard to accusations that this is a failing of our biosecurity system, it is in fact evidence that the system is working given the dogs were discovered, placed under a quarantine order and now successfully exported.
“I would like to thank the dog’s owners and their associates for their cooperation and compliance with the department’s quarantine directives.”
more like evidence that facebook/social media works.

I am not sure about the US but in Europe not to vaccinate your dog against rabies is a very serious offence. Not that anybody in their right mind would want to keep a dog that is not vaccinated. And I would like to assure Barnaby that yes, you can walk in parks in Europe and USA without the fear of rabid dogs. However, it is wise to stay away from any strangely acting wild animals.

Perhaps the Minister used such language and the threat to have the dogs destroyed to stop Depp (or 'his people' or the movie company) from arguing the matter and delaying the dogs repatriation. It worked too. The dogs might have been destroyed, but given an ultimatium by the government, it was a safer bet that Depp would get off his you-know-what and have the dogs returned to America ASAP. After all, he had the means and wealth to do it quickly...and it was in his best interests - and the dogs - to do so,

Joyce used that language because that is who he is..........
Depp cooperated fully with the Dept. and was thanked for it, apparently.

Hehhehe, I find that concept hilarious. Hook ups for dogs
