The sound of a single twig breaking was all it took...

Takeaway looked at the tree, then headed down the bridge, towards it...

Down the tree, across the bridge, up the ramp and up into the tree she went...

This is not an accurate depiction of what happened... ha ha...

That poor little boy possum was, no doubt, having a stretch and a yawn, and quietly contemplating the day ahead, when...

The unwelcome wake up call he's sure he didn't book with reception, happened... ha ha.

He didn't even take the time to register being surprised, he just took off down the fence, at a rate of knots, ha ha.

I watched the old man bird with the busted leg climbing up a ramp.

It's a slow, and painful to watch process, but he manages, in his own time, in his own way.

I asked him if there was anything I could do to make things easier for him, and his reply was "Put in an escalator...".

The trouble is I'm not sure if he was joking, or not, ha ha.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Having a few minutes to hand, and having watched the old man cockatoo with the busted up leg climb a ramp the day before, I wondered if making a ramp that sat at less of an angle would make it easier to climb...

The suggestion has been bandied about that I should hang the expense and build an escalator, but those things are complicated... ha ha.

Would it even be possible to build a "shallower" ramp, given that I have two fixed end points for it...

The question is how clever can I get, and still stay within the bounds of the laws of physics... ha ha.

Well, there's nothing like having a look-see...

I got a long garden stake - it's a good way of measuring angles and lengths in a "put it where I think it should go, then stand back and look at it and see what I think...", way.

"None shall pass the gatekeeper", or in this instance, the old man cockatoo who spends his days here.

He insisted on being shown the garden stake, and on having it held up to him so that he could bite it, and taste it, ha ha.

He doesn't have to know, or be involved in everything, but the more that he's involved, the happier he is, ha ha.

I asked him if he was okay with me calling him Old man - I say "Good morning, Old man", when I see him, first up.

He said he was fine with that, after all, I also call him Old man bird when I want him to ignore me, ha ha.

"Or are you trying to get me to do something, or go somewhere? Good luck with that...", ha ha.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

The old man bird with the busted leg dropped by, right on last drinks, ha ha.

It's a good way of guaranteeing he'll get to the food without too much interference.

Not too much, anyway...

Shortly after he arrived, the magpies arrived and sat on the bridge, complaining that he was in the way.

Points to them for turning up when they did - it's quiet, and still light.

Now if only they could get past feeling uncomfortable about an old man bird who's about as threatening as a wet lettuce leaf, ha ha.

He's doing better, today - walking on one and a half legs, now, rather than hopping, painfully, as he was.

He might well make a good recovery.

When he's not having something to eat he likes to indulge his other passion - pointing out to me where I could fix ramps so they're easier to climb, ha ha.

A cockatoo that's only been here a few days and already it's got me wrapped around it's little finger...

Why does that seem familiar, somehow? Ha ha.

That says a lot about you ecar.....not many people care about the local wildlife.

The old man bird would not stick arond and be so trusting if he was at all worried about the reception he would get.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

I think a fair part of the reason that they come here is down to word of beak - I'm not sure what to call it, otherwise, ha ha.

"There's a place and it's okay, and there's a bloke there and he's okay...".

It's not just being nice to them, the trick lies in listening to them...

I can wrap a length of rope around an arch if it makes it easier to climb.

It's not a huge effort on my part to hear what they have to say, and respond as best as I can.

Nothing goes the distance in making them feel like they matter quite like making them feel like they matter.

I agree with Muhammad Ali.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

There's a pair of galahs, visiting at the moment.

Actually, there's several pairs, but this pair take the cake when it comes to not being backwards about coming forward...

Because we've never been formally introduced, they prefer to call me by a name of convenience -  "Come on, come on, where's the food?", ha ha.

There's few things quite as funny as the sight of a pair of bright pink birds, waddling as fast as their little legs will carry them, scurrying towards me, gibbering and squeaking, excitedly... ha ha.

It's nice to feel like their seeing me is the high point of their day, ha ha.
