the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

This is a thread with no particular

Topic so no one can be off topic ๐Ÿ™‚

So if anyone out there has something

To say about anything you like now

Is your chance

Keep it clean

And be nice

See how long that lasts

Can we keep politics and religion out

Of the conversation

I'm always fascinated by your possum stories, ecar.......  is there a reason you use creamed corn as one of the foods you give them?

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Years ago I was given a couple of corn cobs "for the animals"...

I think I broke them into pieces, and the possums were happy enough wrestling with them, ha ha..

I tried, and please, for safety's sake, don't try this, to cut corn cobs into more or less centimetre thick slices...

It worked, to a fashion, but I came dangerously close to injuring myself more than once...

Creamed corn was an experiment - let's see if you'll eat this corn... and they did, ha ha.

There's a brand of creamed corn that's more liquid than the others, and they love it because they can lap it up.

There is the other advantage, too - I don't have to clean up the dry, well gnawed remnants of the corn cobs, ha ha...

They love it, so I'm not about to complain, ha ha...

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

A few years ago one of the young possums decided that she had-to-had-to-had-to eat the fresh green shoots on the rose bush...

Getting anywhere near the rose bush involved her hanging by her tail, from one of the bridges.

There was one small detail that thwarted her plans... her arms were just too short to reach over and grab the rose bush...

That didn't stop her from dangling, precariously, and waving her paws at the rose bush, as if she was beckoning it over, ha ha...

Meanwhile, her Mother was sitting on the bridge, nearby, and making anxious noises at her, as Mothers do, ha ha...

Haha, fair enough.  I give 'mine' the corn cobs cut into slices a couple of centimetres thick. Haven't lost any fingers yet but I know what you mean - the corn is really hard to cut.   Might try the creamed corn and see how they like it.

Or stand the cob up and cut all the corn off the cob.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Probably a little closer to how they would do it in nature also.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

The possum house in the middle of the garden has, for ages, been the stopover "house" for possums in transit...

They'd stay a couple of nights, at most, and then move on...

Sometimes a possum'd stay there for three or four nights, and that's bordering on becoming an honorary permanent resident, ha ha...

Which is what happened with Susan...

She was a temporary, here and there, visitor, but once she began to extend her stays, it became obvious that "Temporary/Visitor girl possum" wasn't a really a suitable name for her, anymore, ha ha...

I told her that seeing as she was, for all intents, a permanent resident, that she could choose her own name, but it had to be relatively simple and easy to say.

So she chose Susan, ha ha.

But she's not the "Landlady", Mother possum holds that title, ha ha.

Every so often, in the morning (Which, just to confuse you, is dusk - my day is their night, but for the sake of simplicity we interchange the terms, which might not make things so simple, after all, ha ha...), Mother will get up, have a stretch, sniff the breeze, and then walk briskly over to the Honey house to poke her head round the door and harass Susan, ha ha.

"You've got to keep them in line", as Mother possum says... ha ha.
