This problem is a little long winded, but I feel it necessary to explain from the beginning to understand my end dilemma. A buyer purchased two items from me at the same time, and made one Paypal transaction to pay for them together. On receipt of items, the buyer noticed one item was slightly damaged. Our initial contact regarding the damage resulted in us agreeing he would return the item. We were both amicable during the whole process. As we progressed with organising item/funds return, the buyer put in a Refund Request to eBay. I didn’t feel this was necessary but I understand it is entirely his decision. This resulted in the full amount of the payment in Paypal to be withdrawn from my account and put into pending. The damaged item was $533 and the other $410, plus postage. A total of $966 pending. I discussed with Ebay at the time, and Paypal, and I was told that’s how it’s done, and they can’t just pend part of the payment. I was annoyed but let it go as the buyer and I were close to finalising, and Ebay advised me once the buyer had closed the Refund Request that the funds would be released. Eventually, the buyer decided he wanted to keep the item, so we negotiated that I would refund $50 to him so he could have it repaired. I did this by way of bank transfer, not Paypal (as above, ALL my funds were sitting in pending). As soon as he was in receipt of a copy of my bank transfer the buyer kindly closed the Refund Request as I had asked him to. Onto my dilemma: This was on 14th December. I rang Ebay same day and they advised me it would take 24-48 hours for Paypal to release the funds. So I waited 48 hours, and my money is still pending. I contacted them again, and was told, sorry, not sure what has happened we have definitely now advised Paypal to release your funds, please wait 24-48 hours. Grrr, but ok. 48 hours later, still no money. I contact them again, this time told 24 hours. Yes, you guessed it, no money. So by now, just a few days before Christmas I am way past any patience I may have had originally. I am emailing, I am ringing, I am ranting on their Facebook page. I made contact with Paypal, who continually told me they can do nothing, as the Refund Request was put through Ebay, not Paypal – it is Ebay’s issue. Though in one of Ebay’s many reply emails to me they advised everything was fine their end and to contact Paypal. The final straw, on 23rd December, I am told I now have to wait 7 – 10 days! And I hit the roof – but to no avail. Ebay would not budge. “Our technical teams need to collaborate”, “We ask you to extend your patience” And Paypal still telling me it’s Ebay’s issue. So here I sit, 21 days gone since the Refund Request was closed and Paypal still have $966 of my money pending. Again today, I have sent both Ebay and Paypal more emails asking if they have looked at my account yet and both have replied it is not their issue and to contact the other. So I have copied and pasted their responses to each other and requested perhaps they ring each other to sort. I have not heard back from either. Any suggestions as to where I go from here will be appreciated as I am at a loss at to what to do now.
