A buyer wants to cancel the transaction after the auction has ended and they were sucessful.

Twelve hours after the auction ended, the winner bidder contacted me to say that a child accidently bid on the item and that they wanted to cancel the item.  I am VERY unhappy with this.  How do I proceed?

This excuse has been done to death.

A better imagination would be great to see a change of reason for not wanting to pay.

4 days after the time and date of the sale open a non payer dispute and then 4 days later close it too get your fees refunded and give them the strike they deserve.

You have no idea how many other sellers have heard the same lie to not pay.

To open the dispute to the right of the sold item from the drop down click on resolve a problem and then follow the prompts to open a non payer dispute.

you should read the following thread from the "buying" boards: http://community.ebay.com.au/t5/Buying/Can-u-cancel-a-transaction-of-an-item-you-bought/m-p/579188#U...

The OP in that thread woke up one morning to find that . . . . wait for it . . . . her 5 year old must have bought something the night before.  It may be your buyer!

Anyway, I would tell them that they do not have to pay, and that when they receive notification of an UnPaid Item case against them that they should ignore it as it is only being done to get you a fee refund.  I would then open and UnPaid Item case 4 days from auction end.  They will get a non-paying bidder strike, they will be unable to give you feedback, and you will get your final value fee refunded.  If you press them to pay, and they do, then they may give you negative feedback such as "unhelpful seller, avoid at all costs" which would be difficult to get removed as that would be the buyers opinion of the transaction.

it always amazes me how anyone can "accidentally" maneuvre the blinky cursor thing with the mouse into the bid amount box, then press right click to get it to stay there, then make a minimum of 2 different keystrokes and then continue on to "accidentally" maneuvre the mouse cursor thingy and right click on "submit bid" (or whatever it says) and then to "accidentally" repeat that process when it asks you to confirm the bid.

It amazes me more when it is a cat or a budgie etc.

That's an awful lot of accidents, of proportions that surely even Lemony Snickett would be proud.

roflmao...........@crikey

OP I feel for you, this is the kind of behaviour that should see buyers take a long holiday. I simply cannot believe how many of them think sellers were just dropped on the planet & are still reeling from entry, rendering them brainless and void of any kind of perception.

If you cancel I would charge a restocking fee, sometimes the only time people learn is when they are hit where it hurts.

Good luck.Smiley Wink

Who cares if it is a child, a dog, a cat, a bird or a goldfish it is the account holder's responsibility and they should pay up or take the unpaid item strike they deserve on the chin.

When they hopefully apologised for not securing their account properly did they offer to pay you your fees and a percentage for wasting your time? I bet they did...................................................not!

Re: A buyer wants to cancel the transaction after the auction has ended and they were sucessful.

I agree with all the other folk, it is not acceptable.

Believe it or not, this is annoying for other buyers too. I've been in the situation in the past where one other buyer bid back and forth against me and was winning, then withdrew that bid...... the next day!!!

Not a few minutes later, not an hour later, next day!!!

Reason given was they 'made a mistake in the price'. I thought ebay rules were if you made a mistake in the amount you could withdraw a bid, but were supposed to then re-bid with the correct amount.

2 or 3 days later I was the winner, but seriously, I might not even have been looking in at ebay by that stage, I had assumed I wasn't leading in any auctions. It could have left me looking like the baddie.

If they don't want it, they shouldn't bid. I can't figure out why they do.

Thats is wierd- its quite fiddly register a bid, it cant be accidental.

I think I would advise the person that their Pet who can perform such a complicated process would make them a fortune on YouTube,

Re: A buyer wants to cancel the transaction after the auction has ended and they were sucessful.

I have had recent situation where buyer wanted to cancel 2 transactions a week after winning and then withdrew all bids on current items stating they accidently input the wrong price!! (they were the starting bidders and put bids on days prior)

Not sure what can be done about it - do i cancel the transactions?
