Basic store subscription doubling in September

Hi,

We have just read the changes that are coming in September 2012 regarding Basic Store Subscriptions (rising from $24.95 to $49.95)

Our sales on ebay have reduced so much over the last year or so that doubling our store subscription really isn't an option  (most of our sales come though our website).  My question is, if we close our store and take advantage of the 30 free listings per month, will we have to relist the stock we have in there now?  Or will it appear in our Unsold folder and we can just relist it from there?  Also, is there anything we'll miss out on by not having a store other than Good Till Cancelled listings?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Basic store subscription doubling in September

I feel absolutely shattered about this. I have 5 kids and one has a disability. I'm trying to build a small business for myself and stay home to look after my kids. Now I just don't know what to do. I'll just be working to pay eBay fees if I continue. Why can't they just leave things the way they are? I just want to put my head in my hands and cry. Good luck everyone.

Re: Basic store subscription doubling in September

I've had a Basic Store for a couple of years. I am a Powerseller & have just been given top-rated seller status.

Yet my sales have dropped down to about 6-10 a month for about the 9 months, after years of usually selling several items per day. I have no idea where my recent Top rated seller came from as it's becoming more woeful each month. My profits each month now won't allow me to pay the extra fees even if I thought it was fair. Neither the P/seller nor the TR seller statuses is giving me any more sales.

I have a store with nearly 200 items so it's too expensive to list seperately. The 30 free will be a drop in the bucket. Yet that's what is suggested I do.

This is the only income I have apart from Disability & I have hoped it would increase again. But now it's the end. My own personal Wall St crash.

Very  upset with this especially given that ebay was always seen as a great way to avoid the big businesses and get a bargain. It will not be anymore obviously. I only just cut my employment 1 day a week to put more time into ebay and had invested in lots of stock ready for christmas . Could not believe my eyes that they were doubling there store fee.  Feeling very different about ebay now. Cannot get my head over the fact they would actually do such a thing. If people want to buy from only big businesses they would not have been using ebay all these years guys.

Every ebay store needs to speak up how outrageous this. Come on everybody.

It would seem that ebay wants to squeeze low volume sellers out of the store system and only keep big businesses there.

I guess us hobby sellers aren't worth much to them.

Re: Basic store subscription doubling in September

The least they could do is give us more notice, i intend on closing my store so i now have to run around like a headless chook so to speak, listing all the stock so i can do it at the cheaper fee. I'm then faced with going from 5c fee per listing to 50c per listing ๐Ÿ˜ž

I would also use quicksales but the trouble is no one knows about it, except a very small customer base, it just doesn't reach the wider audience because they don't seem to advertise it. And because of the free listings its flooded with individual sellers selling thousands of items, some from overseas too. It would be awesome if someone started a rival site that was for 2nd hand items only, no new items, that would stop it from becoming yet another dull electronic shopping mall, which it seems is exactly what the powers that be are doing to ebay :_|

Like anything, we do things either because we love to or because it pays dividends. If a few sellers leave, it only means more profits for the remaining sellers. Ebay won't lose as the buyers will still spend the amount they could afford to in the 1st place.

But see, this is where I don't think it will work quite that way.  I have been a HUGE buyer on ebay for over 10 years, I loved the range of unusual, weird and unique items that could be found on here.

The big professional sellers are 99.9% sellers of generic plastic junk which I am not one whit interested in.  So 100% for sure I won't be spending the same money on ebay anymore.

For the last year or so, listings of items I am interested in have dwindled and dwindled, to the point where I am finding I turn more to local markets, car boot sales, real-life auctions and places like Etsy. It's such a shame as shopping on ebay was a real hobby for me, I loved sitting at my 'puter after dinner and browsing the listings.

been through all this carry on years ago when ebay made stores invisible, waste of effort, and Ebay know this. not going to get sucked into chasing that dreamboat again. To succeed you have to be where all the buyers are.

Re: Basic store subscription doubling in September

The whole thing was a sneaky plan to make more money.

You just cant trust eBay anymore.:-(

Get rid of the Basic store and say all is fine we will look after you, carp.

Lower the Subscription fee, with this plan to double it after everyone has moved from the Basic store.

Way to make a killing eBay.

But we all should have seen this coming, eBay never drop prices, they only ever want to increase them and make more money.

So the senior execs can justify there saleries and bonuses to shareholders.

Honesty and eBay are like water and oil.
