Basic store subscription doubling in September

Hi,

We have just read the changes that are coming in September 2012 regarding Basic Store Subscriptions (rising from $24.95 to $49.95)

Our sales on ebay have reduced so much over the last year or so that doubling our store subscription really isn't an option  (most of our sales come though our website).  My question is, if we close our store and take advantage of the 30 free listings per month, will we have to relist the stock we have in there now?  Or will it appear in our Unsold folder and we can just relist it from there?  Also, is there anything we'll miss out on by not having a store other than Good Till Cancelled listings?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm going to play devil's advocate and suggest the possibility that PJ may be being deliberately provocative.

If you're angry about that, stay. And keep your customers here too, just to spite...well, anyone you choose I guess. 😉

Re: Basic store subscription doubling in September

There are quite a few things about ebay that I don't like but a small rise in store fees of less than six bucks a week is not one of them so why should'nt I be happy if other sellers are leaving?

You say I have no sympathy for small store holders! Well they don't come much smaller than me (unfortunately not in dress size), I have sold on ebay for well over a decade and I have had to adapt to much more radical changes than a small fee hike in fees especially when overal my fees are going to be less next season than last with the lower insertion and FV fees.

If my store stops being profitable then I will go back to listing without a store which I did for many years. What I won't do is rant at ebay for doing what THEY want with THEIR site. Nobidy is forced to use their site so if you don't like it just leave and let the rest of us get on with it.

The only people who have a right to reorder ebay policy are the shareholders.

lol, i find this comment funny.

People i feel have lost site sometimes of what the boards are about, and they are here to help people, help each other.  I stay away from the boards for this particular reason, all of the nastiness and ganging up, which is so wrong.  Lately i have been reading them, and have learned alot from them and for this, i thank the genuine boardies who help people and not "attack" others for coming here for help.  It is very sad and very wrong to act in such a way.

Having closed my store on eBay quite some time ago, i am looking at things from a neutral perspective.

Lately i've been seeing how many small sellers on eBay are worried about their businesses, and in today's economic climate, yes, i feel for them.

I assume they come to the forums to vent some feelings and discuss their concerns with other sellers.

Expressing your happiness at their situation was totally unnecessary, and of no use at all.

sjs_creative_creations is correct. The nastiness on these boards is the reason most people avoid them.

If increasing fees, one day shipping (without Paypal fraud detection), compulsory free shipping (for visible search ranking) are of a concern, then watch for this one to be slipped into the system.

Re: Basic store subscription doubling in September

Incentivised actually a word in the North American dictionary but with a z...... Sad and a shocker.

And Ye gads yes, brothers and sisters, sales are slipshod lately alright. But, I don't think I will close my store (yet) with this latest round of ......incentivisation :^O... will give it at least a months' grace and see what happens.

And as usual, having inklings of Et-s=y and Ru-by-lan-e yet again & will definitely get a wriggle on with the website.

My main concern apart from 50 big ones per month... is.... visibility on ebay in the future. Pay more fees and have less visibility?? The latest hikes are full on, small sellers will most likely be herded with the corporate whip, to the very bottom of the pile, if not so already, given this months sales figures. Erk.

Luckily I sell quirky little vintage things from my collection, that people often hunt for via search engines. Still, it's getting more and more difficult as the internet changes gear at an alarming rate annually.

Qsales..forget it. I was in there on the ground floor and I left after a few years. Possibly if I had stayed for the long haul, I may have done okay but it was just dead boring in the end, like watching carrots grow.....jilly

The backlash ~ people will renew their interest in markets etc

Re: Basic store subscription doubling in September

bigtrainiac why are you quoting changes to the US site policy which is completely different to ours?

PJ,

as I am sure you realise, what happens in the States, rarely stays in the States.

Paypal policy,

Global listing policy,

Click n Send,

Hide & go seek search rankings,

Philippine based CSD ....

Even the changes you are all looking at now, the shop fees, free shipping, 1 day shipping, returns policy, etc ... were rolled out up north 4 months ago.

The eBay one size fits all policy doesn't just refer to sellers, it refers to countries as well ...

Forewarned is forearmed. The more information sellers have, the better equipped they are to make decisions.

Re: Basic store subscription doubling in September

If I was eBay I would be overjoyed with people using my site forum to discuss how to use the competition and take business away from me.

Maybe you should try thinking outside the square and come up with ideas of how you can use the huge volume of buyers you already have access to.

Even if you were to change, I can guarantee it wouldn’t take long for the new site to start increasing fees as well, and being smaller you may find they rise a lot higher then you would expect for a smaller company.
