Buyer can make their feedback profile PRIVATE?!

A buyer left me a negative positive ("does LOOK like theres 200 seeds" - there was 208, and they are packed on camera).   So I had a look at their feedback profile.

Can't access it - buyers can make their feedback history private, so sellers can not see it.   I had no idea!

That is messed up!  Im going to cancel any purchases from buyers with hidden feedback profiles, defect or not.

Thanks l - done. Yes I think I have prevented that snoop place from divulging any info. Have I told you lately that I think your great?

take a look at this thread where it shows you how to make sure your history is not divulged on that outside website.

http://community.ebay.com.au/t5/Buying/Hide-your-buying-history-on-quot-that-outside-website-quot/m-...

When that thread was started there were only 116 eBay members worldwide that had asked for their history to be blocked.  There are now 130.  Jay, who runs the site, said that whenever the block info is posted on a discussion board there is a spike in requests.  By posting the link in this post there may be more members that see the thread.

I know not every member is happy that I posted the info, but I can live with that (if getting on the bad side of some board members is the worst thing that happens to me this year then I will have had a very good year indeed).

Maybe you should spend some time in the Answer Centre and see how often the use of that site can ensure that the OPs get immediate help instead of having to wait a week for them to return to clarify exactly what they want to know.

Re: Buyer can make their feedback profile PRIVATE?!

Anyone who has recently blocked themselves from the site, is likely to have read how to, on this forum.

So they would be likely to know, that they then need to provide the specific item number themselves if subsequently asking for help.

First time users of the forum who go straight to the Answer Centre, are unlikely to yet be blocked on that other site.

Yes, Amber it is true that most members who come to the AC for help have not blocked themselves on that site.

By the same token they often ask the most obscure questions with almost no real facts.

And if they do happen to post an item number is is often removed by the Moderators before we can make use of it, now that Item numbers are a no-no on the boards.

I do spend some time in the AC and look at questions posted.  Have even posted some answers there.

If the OPs you write of are regular posters/visitors then they will be back often and provide extra info if need be . . . . . if they are not regular readers/visitors they are unlikely to see the info on blocking their buying history let alone know that members can use that outside site to identify the items they have bought.

I do take your point about being able to provide immediate help on board, but if a member chooses to provide very little info AND block their history on that outside site then they only have themself to blame if help is delayed.

Re: Buyer can make their feedback profile PRIVATE?!

People do need to opt-in for a block. Sir Sales has provided the way to, and you (and others) have given reasons why not to block.

Having a reason to block, I commend Sir Sales for posting the option. Which is all it is, an option. To be aware of it, is a good thing to know.

Re: Buyer can make their feedback profile PRIVATE?!

Thanks for that - I have already been there and requested a block some time ago. I found that it was easier to find that page than it was to locate Eb's blocking request page - hence the Q that lyndal answered for me ...
