Hi everyone 🙂
I recently sold an item (appliance part) on ebay for a little over $100 /$15 post, sent in an australia post flat rate express satchel with tracking of course, I sell these parts all the time and have sold a lot of them, very rarely have an issue.
So a couple of days passed and the tracking updated to "address details incorrect" so i sent the buyer a message asking if he knew what was going on but after a few days the buyer didn't reply, strange!.. I can confirm and prove the package clearly has the exact address of the buyer as registered with ebay
a couple more days go by so i decide to try and call the number registered with ebay but what do you know "the number you are calling is disconnected"
a couple more days goes by and it gets the better of me so I look on facebook and find the guy on marketplace selling an appliance which uses the part that I sold him, being sold for little more than the part i sold him, at this stage i am really sus so I message the guy and let him know hey its me from ebay having trouble getting hold of you blah blah & so on, message is marked read but again no reply.
Had a look through his ebay feedback and he has a few red marks for dishonest transactions and as a matter of interest has in the past sold the same component that he bought from me! and other parts very similar to it, sus as!
I called Australia Post and they confirmed the buyer definitely refused the package at the door and they said he has a while to collect it before it gets sent back but there's no return address on the package so it will end up at the lost mail center a few suburbs away from me, i don't like going there unless its absolutely unavoidable
no case has been opened for not received, im nervous and suspicious and wondering where this is going and would like to keep one step ahead of the game, if that's what it is 🙂
What you all think, what should be my next move or preventative measures to not end with in a loss on this item ..
Thanks in advance 🙂 looking forward to replies

If the buyer also sells on ebay, then I would presume he knows the ropes and at some point is going to claim item not received. It would make no sort of economic sense for him to refuse delivery and not claim.
I think your first move should be to see if you can get evidence, in writing, from Australia Post that the package was refused at the door.
Even if the address was wrong, if you used the address as registered on ebay, surely you should be covered?
But for the future, surely it would be a good move for you to put your return address on packages?
I know we always hope for the best but you need to plan for the worst as well, unfortunately.

Hey Springyzone, its actually really strange this was one of the very rare occasions that I did not put my return address, out of every 100 packages I might forget or get lazy once or twice max, AP told me it will end up back at the lost mail center on my end a few suburbs away, i am not likely to go looking for it to be honest last time i went to that place i swore never again

You need to contact Ebay customer support and advise them what has happened, usually your tracking will show information about the delivery. Provide the tracking details to Ebay CS, they now have a record of the transaction/delivery and can check themselves. If this buyer decides to ask for a refund/item not delivered, you have a support ticket with Ebay and they will advise what steps to take. If the person gives a negative feedback Ebay will remove it. Also, as mentioned by others on this feed, you should have a return address on all items you send 🙂

Incorrect. Unless and until the buyer opens a dispute there is nothing eBay can or will do. At which time uploading the tracking to the dispute should find the seller in the right.
