COMBING SHIPPING Problems

Many of my customers are in the UK and I get daily messages from people who say that they cannot combine shipping on my items despite the fact that all of my settings enable combined shipping. Sometimes I get buyers purchasing multiple items and paying separately for each one with separate postage charges which have to be refunded individually. I know other sellers have similar problems.

The reason why UK buyers cannot combine shipping on Australian listings is because they find the items through ebay.co.uk If they try and purchase any Australian listings they are forced to pay for each item individually with a separate postage charge each time.

Whenever I get a message from someone about this I have to tell them that the fix is:

1. Log out of the UK site

2. Log in to ebay.com.au and find the items there

3. Purchase them separately but dont pay until they get an invoice.

That usually works for them but they cant understand why they couldnt achieve that by buying them through the UK site.

I have advised ebay about this problem but the reps have no clue as to what is happening.

These constant problems for UK buyers makes ebay look unprofessional and is frustrating for both buyers and sellers. In many cases, buyers just give up and go somewhere else. Its about time that ebay FIXES THIS ISSUE.

Typo in the first post - should read combining shipping.

Agreed - this has been happening for two years. ๐Ÿ˜ž (On affected listings, which - as far as I know - are only Australian seller's listings on both the UK and US sites, immediate payment is enforced no matter what, and the 'add to cart' button isn't available either, so even if you have automated combined shipping discounts, the buyer has no way to access them on their own sites).

Re: COMBINING SHIPPING Problems

It has been happening to Australians buying from the UK too.....the first time it happened to me was about October 2014 when I was buying diaries for Xmas.  It happened again in 2015 so obviously nothing has been done.

And to make matters worse the Shopping Cart only works intermittently....it cost me an extra $10 shipping because I could not combine two higher value items from Bing Lee when using the discount voucher last week.

The UK is another site where FVF is charged on whatever postage the buyer pays, so when a buyer can't access combined postage discounts, eBay gets to maximise their fees - if I were a more suspicious person, I'd assume that's why it hasn't been fixed yet..... >_>

Aside from eBay glitches and the like, though, there are a couple of reasons a seller's discount won't apply automatically in the cart. One is that the items have different discount profiles (a seller can set flat rate or calculated postage discounts and create multiple profiles for both, but only one can be selected per listing, so if one listing has $0 extra per item - noted in green in the postage and payments tab - and another has something different like 50c extra per item, the full P&H will be charged on each in the checkout).

The other circumstance is when there are different postage services selected as the default. Even if I use the same postage discount on different items, if I use 'standard postage' on one, and 'standard postage - registered' on another, the discount won't be applied at checkout, so that's a couple of things that can sometimes explain why they don't work.

Promotional postage discounts should always work no matter what, as they apply to all items that have the rule selected, and they override flat or calculated postage discounts, but it can be hard to tell sometimes what's being used by the seller (promotional postage rules are usually percentages off postage totals, or free post when a certain number of items are purchased, or a specific dollar value reached).

Re: COMBINING SHIPPING Problems

Digi in the case of my UK purchases I put the items in the cart and when I went to request the combined postage invoice the message just came up that the seller did not offer discounts.

I have been buying from the sellers involved for 6 or 7 years and never had a problem with the discounted postage until the infamous cart got involved.   Both sellers assured me that the discounts still applied but ebay kept insisting otherwise and I had to end up paying for each item separately.

Re: COMBINING SHIPPING Problems

Ah yeah, I remember that now. In my ideal eBay (or perhaps 'fantasy' is more appropriate Smiley LOL ), they would fix the whole BIN / cart / combining mess by simply removing the BIN button so there is only 'add to cart', and allowing 'request quote' wherever postage discounts aren't (or can't be) automatically applied, and the buyer could then proceed through checkout and buy the items (as it is now, even if you get the 'request invoice' function, it BINs all of the items. Since it seems they're moving toward immediate payment, or at least items remaining available until paid for, I think something like that would be the neatest solution while still allowing sellers to use multiple postage services on individual listings and the like).

Re: COMBINING SHIPPING Problems

As a seller you are obviously better aquainted with the system than I am Digi but combining postage is not the only beef I have with the cart.

Even on local transactions I have had problems.....first the cart will not accept any items, then suddenly they pop up in the cart twice because that is how many times I tried.   Then when I try to access the cart to remove one of the items I am told there is nothing in the cart and I am locked out anyway.

I finally bought 2 items on the Bing Lee promotion but had to BIN them each separately and pay 2 lots of postage instead of the advertised second item free.

I have no idea how many items I am going to find in my cart when I can finally get into it.....at least 2 expensive Bing Lee items and probably a host of cheaper ($1-$2) items that I gave up on when I could not use the cart.

Re: COMBINING SHIPPING Problems

My cart does add in shipping discounts/ combining smoothly, but will not get rid of paid for items until the fourth time I click on the cart icon...then they Finally Go!

with multiple items available on the "ghosts" I have been lucky to escape a re-purchase when buying subsequently.
