Chinese sellers a bit worrying and something I find hard to understand

The last couple of months I have been searching Ebay a lot looking for possible items to sell. One thing I have noticed is a lot of categories have Chinese sellers Shop based in China that are selling items from Australia that by itself is fine but they are selling just over wholesale price. Short term that may be great for buyers but it will mean eventually only Chinese sellers will be here and of course the price will creep up and I can not imagine the service is going to be A1.

Now I am confused why this is happening to me it seems like China is trying to make Australia an extension of their market cutting out the middleman/reseller which I do not understand whoever these sellers are they much be investing a large amount $100s of thousands in each item and they sell multiple items so we are talking millions of dollars or something like the manufacturer is importing and selling direct which is like me saying I do not want to use a postal service so every day I jump in my car and set off to deliver everything myself which would not be a wise move.

I have noticed a fair few of these sellers in Darwin and Sydney I am sure they will be in other places to. The ones in Sydney I get a feeling they are some sort of holding/forwarding service the ones in Darwin I feel they have representatives there (could well be wrong just what I feel)

The real killer is that in many cases the listing may say that the item ships form Darwin, Sydney, Melbourne etc, but when it eventually arrives, it is clear that it was actually shipped from China. There is no way they can offer the prices they do with free postage if they are posting in Australia.

Cheers,

Penny

I think with the sellers I have been looking at the items are in Australia only going by the feedback there was nothing to indicate they have been shipping from China which is what puzzles me. They sell smaller items from China but they have larger pricey items in Australia. So they offer a price close to wholesale and fast shipping, I can not make sense of it

Sometimes I buy items from sellers located in China but receive them via Aus Post eParcel, so there are definitely forwarding services / warehouses for some of them in Aus.

Some overall general thoughts, observations etc on the Australian sellers v Chinese sellers issue, some of which won't have anything to do with your OP Smiley Embarassed Smiley Tongue

Sometimes these sellers don't work from an individual item price basis, in that they make themselves an easily accessible, safer alternative to some of the independent Chinese wholesale sites, so small retail outlets will buy from them in larger quantities and the sellers can afford to take the loss (if any) on the 1-item sales.

I also tend to think eBay is one of the worst places to look for items to sell, because if you find something, someone's already selling it - that doesn't automatically mean it's no good, obviously, as maybe there's only one or two sellers with it, but straight off the bat you know you already have a competitor or competitors.

-But- that's also where thinking outside the box can sometimes give you an edge, too, depending on the nature of the item. An example of some things I ask myself on occasion when looking at an item are:

Do I want it / would I buy it?

Can I customise it in some way to make it different / better?

Can I package it with other items to provide a better and/or more convenient deal?

I occasionally check to see if an item is already being sold on eBay, but even if it is, it doesn't usually dissuade me from buying unless I can't do something different with the item (even if it's just making it available in a higher / lower quantity than other sellers). Truth be told, I rarely buy stock that I see and don't immediately go - that's so awesome, I want itSmiley LOL The only time I buy things without feeling that way about them is when several people have asked if I stock (or can get) a particular item, but one of my "secrets" is I actually like stocking less popular items that other sellers don't want to... Why? Because the more of those kinds of items I have, the more messages I get that are along the lines of "I can't believe I finally found someone who has these", which is a rep I'll take any day over "sweet, this is the cheapest online". ๐Ÿ˜‰ (A lot of these are items the Chinese wholesalers make / sell, but not usually on eBay, just in case it wasn't clear what the point of me mentioning it was ๐Ÿ˜„ ).

As always some great points

an example of the type of thing I am talking about is 'NEJE laser cutter 300mw' now there is 5 seller that sell from Aus all ship from Sydney all are Chinese based sellers I have gone through their feedback and get no indication they sending, the items they say are in Australia, from china. Now price wise they are cheaper or comparable to the sellers sending from China and not a lot over what I could get them wholesale for. For me to even get into the same market as them I would have to purchase 100+ units, which is not going to happen I do not have the money or the storage facilities

I am aiming to offer packages, at a later date, waiting to build up as not only do I need to buy multiple units I have to buy multiple accessories to make the packages up. I will get there but will take a while. Also these cutters I stumbled on while looking at possible ways to customise items so I am thinking a bit in the right direction ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm in the same boat, really - possibly maybe a little further down the river as I've been able to build up a decent inventory over the last couple of years, but you can never stop "paddlin" (as it were), and I'm one of the slowest paddlers out there... Smiley LOL (Some of the package deal ideas I had, I started sourcing the items for them several months ago, and now I just grab an extra bit here and there when I can - slow and steady wins the race, I keep telling myself).

I'm looking at something like that machine too, but the one I need is 10k, so my arms are gonna get pretty tired before I can get to that point. Smiley Surprised

yes that one is a toy IMHO if I was going to use one seriously it would cost a lot more but I thought it would be a useful tool for some hobbyists and I would like one to play with my initial idea was to purchase 5 units to have something a little different for sale and keep 1 for myself got to try things out ๐Ÿ˜‰ But no way could I put them up at a competitive price damn Chinese sellers stopped me getting a free toy I mean working model to test.

I just do not see how they are doing it or more to the point why I have found things like this is a fair few areas I have looked at.I will find ways to compete as long as I want to just hate thinking a large amount of Aussie dollars are heading out of the country that should be staying here.

100% agree with slowly slowly
