DSR ratings and general ebay feedback

I would like to share my thoughts in regards to the feedback, or more importantly the DSR (detailed seller ratings).I'm a top rated seller and have been for some time. I don't support this program and I will list the reasons why:Computer generated system of DSR rating, or the stars includes the following:
Item as described - I wander how can one rate the description as neither accurate, or inaccurate. It is either accurate, on inaccurate.Postage and handling charges - these are clear right from the beginning of the listing to all the buyers to see and decide whether is affordable for them. So to have this option as a 5 star rating is completely outrages. Buyers don't have to bid, if they don't agree with the postal charges.

Communication - It is very important to communicate from both ends. This rating should also be removed as it simple to express how you feel in your feedback.Postage time - Sellers have no control over how long it takes for the item to reach its destination. So, once another ridicules optionthat forms DSR rating.
Filling the DSR ratings is also subject to an error, simple human error which occurs all the time.It is also a subject to malicious manipulation. I don't say this lightly, but it has happened to me before. Also if the buyer happens to be disgruntled about the item description, or postal charges they are likely to give you a low score on all 4.
I strongly feel that ebay should go back to the old way of operating, when the sellers simply sold stuff and this level of competitionwas not as evident as it is now. Also there is no protection here for the seller, once when item is sold if it has not been paid for. You have an option of starting an unpaid item strike. This is complete nonsense, as if the buyer was going to pay, they would pay anyway. I not only sell, but also buy from my ebay account.I have never left anyone a negative feedback as I have on most occasions resolved my issues with the seller. This tool (negative feedback)that is only available for a buyer should also change and only became an option if all the other measures have failed.

Please feel free to post your thoughts and thank you for reading!

Damn Stupid Ratings.

I'm sure some members' ratings have dropped for no reason.

As with feedback you are at the mercy of buyers.

DSR is a good, but i think it should just be reference only, should not count to top rated seller or power seller rating.

Many buyers think sellers afraid to get low DSR, so they will be very rude, very impolite, many non-sense requirements...etc.

DSR cannot actual reflect what really the seller do, especially when seller is doing international sale.

Yes colleenk4324, we are now in the age of the 'Smiling Assassin'.

Lovely item. Very pleased....and leaves 4 x lowest DSR's.

As has been pointed out, a seller has no way of 'improving' their act if they haven't the slightest clue where they went wrong.

Sellers can of course easily find out who has left low DSR's but as this is expressly forbidden by ebay.

The whole rational behind implimenting abysmal siutation is ebay's assertion that low DSR's most accurately reflect the true buyer experience. Buyers who give you 5 stars are not really happy but rather ( from ebay's point of view ) delusional.

The DSR system has quite some way to go before it can be considered fair.

I had all of min items ALWAYS near top of first page of category on best match. This has been the case for a long time.

Then, two 'peanuts' left negative feedback and the subsequent low DRS's (for all categories) all because their item did not arrive as fast as they would like.

Both times the item was posted within 24 hours or less. However, niether buyer apparently thought it would be a good idea to message me about the issue and thus alert me to a potential post issue.

Then I get an ebay message to say my my performance has dropped and I will therefore be under scrutiny for one month at which time my performance will be reviewed.

So becasue of those two knuckleheads, ALL of my items are not even in the first 10 pages now! Business has basically stopped cold!

So the neg feedbacks was for teh same item but ALL items are penalised.

The DSR system is very crude and cruel as it stands as it does not take into account stupid people.

All of my good work over a long time has been undone by just two people who have not the decency to message me before doing something so stupid. And of course, leave 1 stars for all categories.

Ebay need to fix the system immediately so that issues like this can not occur.

Fancy ebay allowing a business to be ruined, at least for 1 month, by such foolishness.

Re: DSR ratings and general ebay feedback

Just received 10th feedback so eligable to see the DSR... not good. 4.4 for item as described and 4.6 for communication... I'll be having restrictions at this rate. Maybe I was doing something differently in the beginning, but I'm probably one of the more honest sellers out there. I won't be happy if it gets worse from this point on but what can you do...

You keep on doing what you have been doing all along - your best. So long as you know you are doing the right thing it will honestly all fall into place, don't lose faith in yourself and try to ignore the DSR's to a certain extent in the early stages, concentrate on your customer service, DSR's will follow, and remember it is all a learning curve. An expert can make a mistake, but only a fool will not learn from it. And visit the boards often, there are tips and help all over the place. Good Luck  😉

Re: DSR ratings and general ebay feedback

I am not happy with the whole system 😞

Postage Time:  I have gotten a 1 in postage time in the last month, received 3 about 6 months ago, but don't know how I can post any quicker, I post same day as payment received, or if paid at night, I post next day, I always use click and send parcel post, so buyer can see on ebay when posted, this should be an automatic 5 stars if using click and send.  Seems buyers are looking at postal time, in some cases can take a week to arrive depending on where, I posted an item from Qld to WA, took 10 days, I posted day of payment.

Postage & Handling Charges:  My postage cost is listed, there should be no dispute, buyer knows how much the postage is, there is no excuse to leave a low dsr's.  I only charge what it costs me, and my postage is cheaper than a lot I have seen for less or same service.  Click and send offer tracking (without the extra cost with registered).

Ebay need to find a fairer system for sellers, as they are paying the fees to use site.

Re: DSR ratings and general ebay feedback

dmh61, how do you know the exact rating that a certain buyer has given you? I thought it was all anonymous.

Your ratings are pretty good - 4.8s and 4.9. It was probably just a one-off buyer who gave the low marks.
