With item not as described defects, do they only appear if a case is opened against you, or are they spawned from using the item not as described option via eBay messaging?

I got a message this morning where the buyer had messaged using that option and I wasn't sure. As far as I know she hasn't opened a case against me (yet!) as that is the only correspondence I've had from her.

I have offered her a full refund on return of the items, so hopefully she doesn't go ahead and open a case against me!

If I am about to get a defect for her selecting that option, how long do they normally take to show up? The one I've already got is from months and months ago and didn't even know I had got it for ages, so no idea how long after the transaction took place that it appeared.

Thanks!!

Surely it is only when a case is opened.

Messages come in all shapes & sizes - like need to send a message any option will do.

I get all sorts - even asking if I have another the same through INR.

Short answer - they turn up on your DSR's.

Sneaky blighters.  I got one             (my first    *blushes)

simply because the item went to Spain and they

didn't speak English.  Just liked the look of the picture

apparently.

Thanks Helen and Stawks. I guess I'll just have to sit back and wait for the neg and low DSR's then! I may not get feedback, but the way she was red lining in the message, I'd say I'll get one.

I got a defect on my other ID earlier this year, but I haven't been able to work out where it came from.

It seemed to pop up after a buyer wrote in the feedback comments that one item was not as described - he didn't ding my stars & he actually gave me a green dot.

My new ID is going solo, for forum use & buying only.  U are all people whom I'm sure can work out who I am.  I doubt whether I'll ever get this ID up to over 700 green dots.

I hate to say this, but I have 4 Item Not as Described Defects.  Never had a Case Opened ! Never had any Negative Feedback either !

Only ever had one Buyer message and say the charm didn't fit her bracelet - shown clearly in the photos on my bracelet though . . . .

I offered her a refund, which she declined, (I figured maybe it did actually fit, but was perhaps a tight fit ?) so she may account for 1 Defect - the other 3 Defects - can only assume Buyers left 3's for whatever reason.  eBay refused on several ocassions to give me any info

If you're like me and can't download defect reports (I keep getting the congratulations message), you can find out from the Detailed Seller Rating reports in the seller dashboard, but it's a long drawn out process.

First you have to find 10 listings where you know you got 5 stars for each DSR, then go through all your other item numbers 1 by one to finally find out who left the low ratings.

I can leave instructions on how to do it if you're interested.

I still haven't heard back from my buyer yet. My defect rate is currently 0.36%, so I don't think another defect is going to hurt things too much. Same with a neg if I get it. Sure, I'll be upset about it, but the rest of my feedback is all good, so I can't imagine it will upset the apple cart too much.

I don't even think I'll add her to my BBL, because I think what she's saying may be 100% correct. I have altered the listings for similar items to reflect what she told me, so she might have done me a favour in that respect! I doubt she'd buy from me again, but you never know. One item she was really happy with.

I did send her another message asking if she wanted a partial refund and to keep the items, so the ball is in her court now.

I got one neutral, and marked down in the rating for item not as described that shows as a defect (1,61% from that 1 one transaction).

Buyer (new, did the same thing to other sellers + negs) didn't give any specifics about why it was not as described (as new, clearly described and photographed), didn't communicate with sellers before or after leaving neutrals & negs.

If a buyer gives a 1 star rating (DSRs) for Item Description you get a defect from eBay. I know because a buyer I had who didn't even pay for the item, let alone see it, gave me a 1 for Item Description after she saw the glowing feedback that the eventual buyer of the same item gave me.

I fought eBay to have the defect removed and I won .... eventually ๐Ÿ™‚

I suppose I am lucky that my buyer did send me a message, said what the problem is and so far hasn't done anything in regards to feedback. She might be waiting to see the outcome before she does that. I just wish she would get back to me, the suspense is killing me!!

She has left neutrals and negatives in the past, but most were for things sent back but not given a refund (I think 3 of each all up over quite a few years, so no pattern). One was for a photo frame where the ad said it was aluminium and glass, and it arrived being all plastic.

I have assured her that if she sends back, I will give a full refund. If she wants a refund on postage, I'll pay the return postage if it means keeping my 100%. I won't refund initial postage because she will be keeping one of the items which would have cost the same postage on its own.
