Ebay scammer, received camera, kept for 1 week, then reported "scratches" ebay approves return!

I sold a camera the buyer is a "camera trader" not and end user.

I took photos as I packaged it up, packaged it up in all secure original protective wrapping and put a bit of bubblwrap  in the box to make sure it didn't shift around.

The item was delivered

Delivered

Mon 13 May

1 week later, but ONLY after I gave good feedback, the seller submitted a photo of 2/3 of a "camera" with no indication or evidence that was the same camera.

Ebay despite me pointing out, He had the product for 1 week then changed his mind, Have approved this scammers return and are about to send my bank account negative as I can't remove it. They are refusing. AFAIK this is illegal. If it was my credit card I would chargeback.

I am lost for words, when you can sell something, take photos at packaging time, and a business owner, who is buying things seemingly deliberately to check if he can sell them then return them , has apparently scratched the  out of it.

There is a chance I will receive a scratched damaged camera back (if that photo is the same camera, no evidence it is). It certainly wasn't sent that way

Part of the users justification was that I said it was "new" except I didn't it was marked used.  The photos showed absolutely all of the condition and the price was competitive for this camera with this low a shot count.

What do I do when this guy who used this camera for a week, changed his mind and apparently scratched it to have an excuse to return it send me back a damaged camera and I get fined $18 because Ebay has absolutely no logical process or common sense whatsoever. Scam business paradise now it seems.

Oh also, Apparently its worthless, But he of COURSE demanded $100 back and he would keep it....

But apparently its worthless. And this isn't a scam by a camera seller to make more profit reselling it.

You can’t name the buyer on these boards. A moderator will no doubt edit your post.

It’s frustrating when you feel as though there may be something dodgy going on…

One thing though - and here is where you may have hung yourself out to dry: in the description you do say “new condition”, even though the item specifics say “used”.

Hopefully you’ll receive back the same camera that you sent, and that it won’t be maliciously damaged (which would make little sense; I hope it’s in good condition). For future listings, it might be a good idea to detail everything (no matter how minuscule) and to underpromise… Avoid a “new condition” description that conflicts with item specific and just say it’s in excellent condition or something of that nature.

A couple of comments.

It doesnt matter if they are a camera trader,  doesnt make them a scammer.

It may have being delivered on the 13th,  but they may not have opened it up straight away,  it happens,  that doesnt make them a scammer

just because you gave feedback,  that doesnt make them a scammer

You listed it ""new condition""  that doesnt make you a scammer, just a false advertiser

Ebay don't fine you $18,  if a buyer receives a not as described item, it is up to the seller to pay return costs,  not the buyers fault they received a dodgy item..

Yes they may be a scammer,  but the evidence you are implying is not really valid.

You listed a photo of the camera's serial number, so you will know whether it's the same camera returned, or the buyer has substituted it for an old one.

The $18 is not a fine but the cost of postage to return the camera to you - which you are liable for, in the return case.

This may be helpful when you receive the camera back. EBay have a policy in regards to returned items sent back not in the condition it was sent.

If the returned item is used, damaged, missing parts, or is damaged during return delivery because it wasn't packaged correctly, some sellers might deduct from your refund to cover the loss in the item's value. For more details, please see our Condition of returned items policy.

Selling used items can be a bit of a mine field on ebay and I would put cameras, phones and anything at all electronic into what I would call the especially high risk basket.

I suspect this is a change of mind return or someone trying you out to get an extra discount.

You've got a low feedback number so to some scamming types, you're fair game as they think (hope) you don't know the ropes.

But you do have a secret weapon on your side-this board.

Firstly, you don't have to offer any partial refunds.

Next, do exactly as imastawka says and double check that serial number when it arrives back to you.

If it isn't the same camera, designers & more has given you the link to follow up.

And you can always come back here when in doubt.

Don't worry about the $18, any time a buyer wins a claim for item not as described, the seller has to pay for the return postage label.

And yes, I knew what you meant by new condition, used 10 times. Never under water etc

You were trying to convey it was very lightly used, almost like new. Any reasonable buyer would know that too, just common sense. They should not be expecting brand new as it was listed as used.

You'd be better off on ebay though to be a bit strategic and say-excellent used condition.

The slightest mark has to be mentioned too. Unfortunately there is a possibility you may not receive it back in exactly the same condition, it may not even be the same camera, but we can hope it is just a change of mind return.

Let us know how you get on.

True to form , sent back to me with no outer box.

Destroyed the product box, which was in perfect condition.

I listed it used with no refunds,

The new condition in description was referring to the minuscule shutter count and the lens.  And the fact I'd used it 10 times maximum.

I hear what your saying, But I think its a personal thing what that means. For this buyer, It meant being as pedantic and particular as possible. I think anyone who received an ultra low shutter count, never taken underwater underwater camera with a perfect lens would of been happy.

My brand new car, had micro scratches all over the side of it when I shined a torch at it, As any material does. This shouldn't be a metric of

I also learned , ebay lets people send you back a damaged item , then tried to take selling fees despite ignoring every single correspondence I made on this.

They are trying to charge me 60$ for what is illegal conduct under consumer law.  I of course emptied my bank account, They can sue me and explain why they tried to bill me before I received item and despite it being sent back damaged without providing me a single service those feed are supposed to pay for.
