Hey all, I have found a ton of these "Sydney Metro" express post satchels in a deceased estate. I have never seen these kind of satchels before and I don't know if they are still valid. They seem quite old. I'm thinking of selling them. Do prepaid satchels ever go out of date? Anyone remember these particular satchels? My local post office didn't know! Thanks

Send an email to the Aust Post help site - they are usually great. Probably enclose a photo and quote one of the numbers. Better to do email rather than a phone call, that way you have something in writing.

Hi there, you may end up with unhappy buyers. This from AP
Underpaid mail: If a satchel is very old, it might be considered underpaid, as the postage rates may have changed. You may be required to pay the postage difference and a potential administration fee.

Thanks Curraone, I did contact them and this was their reply...
Thank you for the additional information you have provided.
There is no reason why they cannot be used. There may be an additional fee that you would need to pay to bridge the gap between what was paid for the satchel originally and the current cost of sending via Express Post.
I hope this helps
The answer is a bit vague, so I think I will use them but I don't have enough confidence to sell them. But I do think it would be very unlikely that I would be charged extra.

Come back and let us know how it pans out. Good luck. Cheers.

I hope this helpsI think this is very unhelpful of Australia Post - I would ask them again for a definite answer ... There may be .... doesn't cut it.

Given - Aust Post has a ' grace period ' for items purchased prior to price increases - that may have been the closest they could come to an answer.
Stated - the satchels are old - how old. ??

Australia Post asked me how old they are too and as I said to them, no idea.

Going by it says Sydney on the front these would have been for use only for next day delivery in Sydney. To use them for sending elsewhere I can't remember but likely would be ok just not next day.
As far as getting hit with an extra fee it may just come down to the sorting machines. I just got charged extra for an extra small satchel and the weight was 550grams but does say 250grams on the satchel even though it can go to 5kgs.
I would send one to a family member first.

I'm using satchels purchased a couple of years ago without additional charge, so there is a reasonable grace period.
As there should be - they've had the use of the money for that time.
