Feedback Overhaul

I believe the feedback system is outdated in needs a major overhaul. Unfair negative feedback is not good for the seller and definitely not good for eBay because it turns buyers away. In a time with so much online competition ebay does not want to lose business and needs to re-think its feedback policy.

Here's a few suggestions I have and your input would be appreciated.

1. Feedback should not be positive, neutral, negative. Scrap it. It should be just feedback comments. Buyers can still read through comments etc.

2. Sellers can leave comments for buyers (again not pos,neg etc.. just comments)

3. Feedback time limit should be 30 days. Why do buyers need 2 months to leave feedback?

4. Keep the DSR ratings. They are more rellevant and can be viewed with the comments.

bunyip, your negs were removed for a reason, not because the seller is PS.

Yep. I left two negs for a Power Seller earlier this month and they're still there.. I was a bit disheartened that I had to leave them for a Power Seller in the first place

'If listing says "red woollen jumper in excellent, as new condition" and what you get is 'red and wool but has slight sign of wear', then the description is inaccurate. 'Slight signs of wear' is not 'as new condition'...

'very not as described'!!!!!!!!, 'mildly not as described'!!!!!!!   Hmmm, don't know what to say to that!

The fact that you do not interpret the way in which to utilise the stars in the same way that I do, regardless of who you think is 'right or wrong,' renders the process useless.

You've vindicated what I said.

It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Hence the feedback problems and the 'very lots of' space on the discussion boards talking about it.

'if everything is as stated in the listing then the seller deserves 5*' Clearly, in the red woollen jumper sale you would have given 5* and I may have given 4* (depending which side of the bed I got out of that day).

I don't have any problems. I'm just getting a handle on the Ebay beast.;-)

Well they removed mine, Cant give me a real reason why, Just keep giving me a link to there policies  Cant point out which one I supposedly broke. Even though Trust and safety agree he broke rules etc. Still all my negs removed. IF there was a problem then for the safety of all you should be allowed a chance to re-do you Feedback. But of cause they wouldnt be able to look after CERTAIN sellers as well

Ebay protects certain Power Sellers, Lets them break rules all the time and rip people off and do nothing about it. I will always do as I advertise.

murbahgirl, you've hit the nail on the head. Feedback is indeed in the eye of the beholder (leaver).

I've recently noticed that my 3 month stars are south of 4.9. Even though I've had no 1 or 2s. Presumably a lot of my recent buyers think 4 is a perfect score. 4.9 for postage cost, when 50% are 'free' post and have an automatic 5, eg. And the rest charged at cost with nothing for packaging, etc.

Who can work out a buyer's psyche? Not me.

I disagree super_nova.

Regarding FB for buyers to be abolished as its totally irrelevant. I know of an ebay buyer who accumulated over 70 unpaid items in less than a year !!! Don't you think that sellers would like to know about that. This buyer has a 100 positive FB !! It stinks that she comes off with a perfect score and I on the other hand have 98.6 % from one lousy buyer who lied about the sale she had with me. My Fb score currently is 517. My 100 % dropped to 98.7 % after a disgruntled buyer gave me a neg (first one in nearly 500 transactions at the time). With sales and purchases it rose to 98.9 % over a few months but now my Fb has dropped to 98.6 while I have done nothing to deserve its dropping number ( just lacking sales and purchases). The FB score is based on how much FB we get from buying/selling. Once 100 % is lost, its lost for 1 year or once the ebayer has bought and/or sold so many items and received positive FB its a joke. FB is not based on the ebayers performance at all. Transparency regarding a members actual performance is needed on the main page of the items being sold for sellers. Buyers need to see how much neg and  pos over the total FB score ...not what has happened over the last months.  Sellers are punished for lack of buying and selling under the current system. Buyers performance should be transparent somehow so that sellers can see quickly and easily how many unpaid items a buyer has accumulated and how many item not received claims they have made. I had one buyer with a FB score of 64 and within that he had 14 UI Claims plus complaints that other items were damaged. Buyers way of getting items for nothing. The FB system really needs work to make it fair on sellers as well as buyers. Buyers seem to have all the say at the moment.

Error from my post above Regarding "I had one buyer with a FB score of 64 and within that he had 14 UI Claims plus complaints that other items were damaged. Buyers way of getting items for nothing. Should have said 14 Item Not Received Claims not UI claims. My apology to readers for error.

As camping posted this thread back in March I suspect they have got over their negs by now! Incidentally looking at their overall feedback i would have no hesitation in buying from them if I was prone to sleeping in a tent rather than a comfy bed ๐Ÿ˜‰

belinda, how many items have you sold on eBay?

I think that high volume sellers will always end up with some negatives, because some buyers can be such a pain in the a@#*, if you get my drift!  The OP has over 1500 feedback in the last month alone.  Allowing for the fact that feedback is voluntary, and the OP may have sold items to some buyers who choose to not leave feedback, they average more transactions every two days than you (belinda) have had in a whole year!
