Feedback Overhaul

I believe the feedback system is outdated in needs a major overhaul. Unfair negative feedback is not good for the seller and definitely not good for eBay because it turns buyers away. In a time with so much online competition ebay does not want to lose business and needs to re-think its feedback policy.

Here's a few suggestions I have and your input would be appreciated.

1. Feedback should not be positive, neutral, negative. Scrap it. It should be just feedback comments. Buyers can still read through comments etc.

2. Sellers can leave comments for buyers (again not pos,neg etc.. just comments)

3. Feedback time limit should be 30 days. Why do buyers need 2 months to leave feedback?

4. Keep the DSR ratings. They are more rellevant and can be viewed with the comments.

sorry k1000 u need help with u maths. I worked out that this seller gets about 109 sales every 2 days and as a mostly buyer and a lot of sellers don't leave feedback so far this year which is less than 7 months I've had 146 transactions on ebay. Best not to judge also just because I use this id here doesn't mean I don't have a sellers account

firstly, let me say that I sometimes struggle to make sense of some parts of some of your posts i.e. "I worked out that this seller gets about 109 sales every 2 days and as a mostly buyer and a lot of sellers don't leave feedback so far this year which is less than 7 months I've had 146 transactions on ebay"      ?:|

secondly, having read many of your posts, I don't recall you ever giving your perspective from a sellers point of view.  I've not ever read anything from you that would even hint that you sell on another ID.  I would have expected something like "why don't sellers leave feedback once a buyer pays, when I sell I always leave feedback as soon as a buyer pays" or "on my selling ID I always leave feedback once a buyer pays" from you regarding feedback.

P.S. it's k1ooo, not k1000

I am mostly a buyer that's how I see myself. This year I have bought just over 150 items as of now, but still bidding. I shop online for everything, clothes, gifts, pets, kids and food shopping is mostly done online as well.

I have sold 10 items this year and each time I give feedback straight away and have not had any negatives.

I guess as I am mostly a buyer that's why I don't get to involved from a sellers point of view unless it's a buyer asking about what to give as feedback or something I have experienced myself as a sometimes seller.

I am a pretty fair person but as u will have noticed my main issue is the feedback and only because I see so many posts about it from a sellers point and they don't see a buyers. I don't think anyone is right or wrong just wish that they could see just as they like feedbackt so do we buyers

But, to flog a well dead horse, seller feedback reflects on the seller's business practices and consequent ability to sell. Buyer feedback reflects on how much stuff the buyer bought that they got positive (only option) feedback for.

The name is the same, but the animal is of a different species. I agree with k1ooo - you don't really seem to have a grasp of the difference.

I think there's an important distinction you are missing.

Most sellers understand that feedback is important to the buyer (it's hard not to if they've spend any time reading the forum, or had people ask for it). When a seller says it isn't, I warrant they are not saying it isn't important to or for buyers, but that the buyer's feedback isn't important to them as a seller.

F/back should be scrapped alltogether, or if you insist on something - only negs should stay as no one seems to "have any intention of reading all the positives", they just zero in on negs that most likely few idiots left - and all the other glowing comments from normal people don't seem to mean a thing.

And DSR's should not be allowed at all - in fact, if anyone can be bothered to challenge them would disprove them with greatest of ease - as they are usually all in black and white, and all based on facts rather than "someone's opinion" - and opinions count for zilch when dealing with facts. Maybe only item as described may be subjective and one could have an opinion about it (at a stretch) - but even there most lie through their teeth or their expectations are totally unrealistic and at odds with item description. Or they just leave low DSR because they can, secretly, or so they think.

And all those in this thread who heavilly rely on negs and DSR's to "enlighten" them when they are choosing a seller - must have absolute nightmares worring about their purchases when they shop on any other web site - or they don't shop anywhere else except Ebay because of this paranoia and fixation about f/backs.

That is one perspective.

Belinda has another.

I have a slightly different perspective again.

I don't give a toss about buyers feedback as a measure of how much they (or I have purchased).

For me buyer feedback is very important - it serves as a way to communicate with my buyers, without clogging up their inbox with another ebay message, it is a way for me to say thank you for their purchase and payment, rate them on the speed of their payment and put in public visibility the date I have posted - as the silly click and send system marks items as posted when they have not been.

I just thought of a different way to put this -

belinda, you've previously equated receiving feedback from a seller to a shop keeper saying thank you in a retail store.

I imagine that a shop keeper who says thank you to all of their customers understands that it's polite and helps encourage a positive experience with the customer on an individual basis, but do you think it's important to the shop keeper how many times other shop keepers have said thank you to that particular person?

If we are going to bandy numbers around all I can say is that you are a rank amateur Belinda.

I have accumulated 113 feedback in a month, 1421 in 12 months and 11045 in the 8 years I have been on ebay....from sellers who leave feedback, and quite a number do not.

And do you know what....I really don't care. Once I had enought feedback to be able to post on the boards I gave up looking at it, unless it was to give a few facts on a thread such as this.

I have no idea when the feedback was left...whether it was when I paid or after I left feedback for the seller.  It really does not matter.
