Garbage service by Ebay. Gone downhill fast. Greedy fees and lack of sales or care.

Will be avoiding this outdated selling site which was once fantastic but no more. Could not care less attitude means there is nobody to contact with a specific problem. Ebay are constantly making selling a more difficult and challenging task each year. Greed has taken over and I believe sellers have left in droves. Would never be recommending this site to anyone. Negative feedback is all it deserves.  No stars. Harry.

Tell it to eBay, they aren't going to read your feedback on the member to member forum

You know the fees before you list

eBay Help is at the top of every page

Or you could ask other members for advice on your issue(s)

Not sure why you believe sellers have 'left in droves'

Don't forget to end all your current listings before you go

So apart from ebay adding the 2.5% financial fee (previously paid to paypal) when they introduced managed payments over 4 yrs ago,   When was the last increase to ebay fees?

Ebay is now more protective of sellers than ever, as long as you meet your obligations to ebay and your buyer.

Contacting CS via live chat is a breeze, in operating hours.  A polite attitude and some knowledge of ebay terms and policies also helps.

Bye Harry      ebay will not even notice you have gone.  Remember to end your listings on the way out.

"selling site which was once fantastic"

I agree.  I'll always give eBay credit where credit's due and try to give honest answers but I don't wear rose coloured glasses.

"nobody to contact with a specific problem"

There is eBay  Help and some people have great success with their help.

However,  most  of the answers here to questions  are "eBay CS  read from a script"

Originally, eBay had  great Customer Support & Trust and Safety teams

"I believe sellers have left in droves"

I can't comment on that but  once  upon a time , on this  Selling Discussion Board you'd have received  a minimum of 30 responses, some agreeing with you, some not, some supporting you, some not.

NOT the New To Ebay Selling and Buying board

NOT the Ask a Member Selling and Buying Board

but

This Selling Discussion Board

"this outdated selling site "

The younger people I know  tell me "eBay's old fashioned".

They only deal with Facebook Marketplace and Instagram

Others will have different experiences

I would agree that sellers have to jump through a lot more hoops these days, compared to the early days.

They have to sign up for managed payments, they have to contend with ebay's money back guarantee, where sometimes a buyer may make (and win) an unfair claim for a refund.

Sure, it used to be a fantastic site for sellers but for buyers, it could be a bit dicey.

It was a trust system and it did work most of the time, but I think buyers wanted more peace of mind.

It's not as easy, either, to set yourself up as a seller on ebay now. I believe it is much harder for the casual person who might wander on to the site with the object of selling a few things. Unless the read up on procedures beforehand, they might run into problems.

But sellers can still contact ebay, with good results so i have heard from a seller I know.

Ebay still has a place. There are lots of items on ebay that you just can't find on marketplace.

Whether you stay on ebay or not is up to you. Try the other selling sites, see how you go.

I do believe a lot of younger people (or the ones i know) have moved away from ebay-more towards marketplace and Amazon, but really, all that has happened I think is ebay was one of the few shopping sites in the early 2000s whereas now there is more choice.

Ebay has done a pretty good job of weeding out sellers, does anyone recall a Friday night special since managed payments was introduced.

As for the forums, what has happened to all those replying under multiple accounts. just to stroke an ego.

The bad stuff

"Ebay has done a pretty good job of weeding out sellers"

"Originally, eBay had  great Customer Support & Trust and Safety teams"

But they're NOT doing a good job of removing scam listings like they used to.

What used to be the good stuff

"As for the forums, what has happened to all those replying under multiple accounts. just to stroke an ego"

That sounds very negative.

What happened to all the seller groups ?

Sports, books, stamps, collectables etc.

Those boards used to be full of sellers discussing their interests and helping each other.

No-one needed to use a different ID.

Sellers have  up and gone.

And to be honest, IMO  most of the larger  items that fish-n-toons has listed for pick up, would  have a better chance  of selling to locals on Marketplace.

The prices could be dropped as there wouldn't be any fees to pay.

Re: Garbage service by Ebay. Gone downhill fast. Greedy fees and lack of sales or care.

There were plenty of users here with multiple accounts, that would reply to their own comments,  supposedly as some form of support or validation,  most were not very good at hiding their alter ego.

Scam listings !    That is exactly what Friday night specials were on a huge scale,  multi million dollar scams every weekend,  so when was the last one?

Worldwide trends  show a gradual decline in users, buyers and sellers alike, many associated reasons, but no mass exodus, of course many refused to sign on to managed payments worldwide, due to all the doom and gloom that was forecast on forums like these.

Ebays sales and hence revenue continues to increase year on year, with one exception of a 6% decrease on top of a 17% increase much attributed to covid.

There certainly were

Plus the sock puppets created to (back then) give kudos to the main ID attacking other members, mostly because said members were giving factual replies

And you are right most did a bad job at hiding their sock puppet-ness

Especially when they forgot to change ID before posting supporting comments in response to their other ID
