Is signature on delivery worth the extra cost????

As a buyer I was shocked to see an item I had delivered was showing on the postage label as Signature on Delivery required (seen after I had the parcel handed to me and postie had left) which had also been highlighted by the seller and I was handed the package and was NOT asked to sign for it.

I contacted the seller and let them know this as well.

As a seller if I paid for signature on delivery no matter if it was at the buyers expense or mine, I want to get what was paid for.

Are any sellers being advised by their buyers that no signature was asked for when it had been paid for?

What is the point in charging or paying for it if it is not going to be done by the postie?

I've emailed Aus Post about it because I can't find a copy of my buyer's signature anywhere.

I think the addressee needs to sign for Registered Post unless they give another person permission to so it should be the same for SOD ( if it actually exists. )

Re: Is signature on delivery worth the extra cost????

I have had more than one person have parcels just left at the door or in plain sight and not sign for parcels that were Signature required.X-( Seems it is just a way for Australia post to get more $.I actually spoke to someone at AP about one such occasion and they asked if the person got the parcel, I said yes. They then said then what is the problem. I said they did not do what I asked and paid for as the signature was not asked for and it was just left at the door. They just said it has been received by the customer, there is no problem and hung up. Go figure.X-(:_|

They dont even have to pay you if the parcels are stolen or lost unless you pay the EXTRA $1.50+ insurance. so as far as I see it it is just a rip off. 😞

I cringe every time I have to send any parcels with AP now. They are also ignoring any Safe Drop stickers. 😞

To say I am over the Aus Post prices and service is an understatement.

Prices have skyrocketed and the service seems to be getting worse.

But I know there are many great people who work for Aus Post.

Just there Corporate Governance and the Act (rules) they abide by give us the consumer no rights. This is wrong. And it seems the CEO's plan for a more customer-focussed business model is falling short. By a country mile.

They can lose things and we have absolutely no comeback unless we pay the absurd added costs for insurance etc. This for things they should be doing anyhow.

Rant Over.X-(

General information on advertising

The main way to attract customers to a business is to advertise. Advertising can be very effective in reaching potential customers and showing them what businesses have to offer but unless it is properly targeted and effectively designed it can be a waste of money and give a business a bad name.

An important element of advertising is to be truthful. A well-informed consumer is a satisfied consumer and your best advertisement. Advertising is a business's public face.

What does the law say about advertising?

The Australian Consumer Law (ACL) prohibits your business from making false or misleading representations

Want to know your item has been delivered and signed for? Signature on Delivery captures a signature of the recipient once the item has been delivered.

Price: $2.95

So if you paid for a signature on delivery but AP cannot produce the signature upon your request

....... then obviously the service was not supplied

or

the service/system did not meet the advertisers claims

These are the only 2 references that I can find re Signature on Delivery in AP terms and conditions.

Reasonably Australia Post cannot sell/advertise an additional service without including the extent and parameters of that service in their terms and conditions

Re: Is signature on delivery worth the extra cost????

I posted a package on Friday with a Safe Drop Sticker. I asked for some new stickers and the lady gave me a roll of them in a box. However, she removed the sticker from my parcel because it was too light. I cannot remember if she said it needs to be over 250 gm or over 500 gm.

Re: Is signature on delivery worth the extra cost????

Hi DJV and others,

There seems to be a little confusion over what the Signature on Delivery service actually offers. Purchasing a signature on delivery means just that. A signature should be captured, either electronically or manually at the time of delivery.

The signature will be kept in our records and can be accessed if required; if for example, delivery is disputed by the addressee. A hard or soft copy of this signature however will not be sent back to you. This would be Confirmation of Delivery, which is an add-on available with Registered Post Letters, and is not available with parcels, though you can certainly contact us for Proof of Delivery if required.

I hope this information clarifies matters somewhat for you all.
