Item not recieved case opened - whats a cheap alternative for tracking than ebay satchels?

Hi All,

Well, today I had an item not recieved case opened against my selling account, the item according to Australia Post should have been recieved yesterday.

I also had another seperate customer send an eBay message that they haven't recieved their item as well..

Both items were posted the same day in a PB1 padded bag to NSW addresses at the large letter rate so there is no tracking, but I do find it interesting that both buyers asked for the tracking numbers and as we know there is no tracking on the PB1 Padded bags.

Looks like I may have to discontinue posting my items in the PB1 Bags and up my postage prices to provide tracking but what is the best way to provide tracking and keep eBay happy in the future for an item not recieved case?

I use the Ebay 500g Satchels for about 80% of my items that i sell on eBay but the items posted in the PB1 Padded bags are low cost small items and I've only had one PB1 padded bag go missing in over 6 years.

Cheers

Hidiho

Just wondering how you send a 500g pacel with ebay labels for $6.48? When I print mine out is $7.15. Could you advise, am I missing something? Thanks.

Thanks curraone,

I'll look into the registered post labels when I post todays satchels over the counter, I was under the impresion that they discountinued the registered post labels, hence the question asked..

Problem with ebay these days is that they keep pushing the "add tracking details" and their "Garantees of Delivery" that sellers are not immune to defects for posting small items at letter rates and buyers "claiming" their items didn't arrive, just wanting to protect my rear end as much as possible.

We use large letter for 99.9% of our stuff ad it's all small, squishy and relatively inexpensive.
We get around 1 in 500 reported missing. When we do we ask the buyer for address confirmation first. Then check at their local po in case they are holding it. Once all that is good we just send out a replacement item. So I guess you could say we self insure. Cheaper than paying for tracking on everything.

Using my own packaging >  print label for 500g parcel > $7.20 less the discount provided by ebay 72c = $6.48

For a limited time from 6 May 2014, we're giving you a 10% rebate on 500g assessed parcels when using our recently launched Australia Post label printing service. Assessed parcels up to 500g are the only service not already offering a negotiated rate. (until 31 December)

Quick Q ?

sorry OP, not hijacking the thread, just didn't want to start a new one.

I use Click and Send (not for eBay) - I use the 3kg bag with sig required...........

Q - Can I use normal satchels or my own plastic package for these so long as the dimensions and weight are the same as the pre purchased satchels?

My understanding is that if you want to use CLICK AND SEND and obtain the 3 kg reduced rate, you must use the special 3 kg satchels available from Aust Post online;   no hardship really as they are quite inexpensive

eBay item number: 151291999636

3kg Australia Post satchel (50 pack)

Australia Postโ€™s flat rate packaging range makes sending parcels easier than ever. Simply order your packaging and weโ€™ll deliver to your door free of charge within 3-10 business days, depending on location.

When youโ€™re ready to send, visit Click & Send to print the corresponding flat rate postage label for delivery anywhere in Australia โ€“ both Parcel Post and Express Post labels are available. With tracking, flat rate postage and multiple packaging options, you can send with confidence!

Thanks very much, will check out and have a go next time i have a 500g item. I have always just used the ebay straight out label which is $7.15. I wonder if they will keep it going after the 31st?

It's not Australia Post's fault but eBay's. They're giving buyers ridiculously unrealistic delivery times when in most cases it takes a couple of days longer. You'd be far better off increasing your handling time by a day or two and that will give you a bit more leeway when it comes to trigger-happy buyers who are stupid enough to believe everything they're told by eBay. Their items will probably turn up tomorrow or the next day anyway.

Hello cq_tech,

Oddley enough the Australia Post website and the customers order summary on eBay both show estimated delivery on the 3rd of December.

I have 2 business days as the handling time  and mark the parcel as "sent" as soon as it is posted which is normally 0-1 days but does the ebay system throw the handling time out the window once marked as sent???... who knows with ebay these days.

I'm pretty sure the handling time doesn't change if you post within your stated handling time. Unless you want the premium badge on your listings (which are basically useless and buyers really don't take much notice), fatten the handling time out to 4 (or more) days. That gives that extra time in the est delivery time that the buyer sees. I'm in the process of changing all mine to 4 days, even though most of the time I post same or next day.

When I send an invoice to the buyer, I mention that I'll post within 4 days, but most of the time I'll post same or next day depending on my work shifts. I've never had any issues with complaints of items taking too long. Interstate buyers I will always give them MY estimate on how long it might take and point out that quite often it can be longer than the eBay estimate. Again, I've had no issues when something hasn't arrived by the eBay estimate.

I understand that changing the handling time on your listings out past 2 days means that your items go even further down the list in Best Match? I am happy to be corrected if anybody knows better?
