MY GOD I ALREADY HAVE 5 LATE DEFICITS AND I SHIP EVERY DAY

I ship daily and have a perfect record for over 11 years, my late postge deficit reads as follows.

3 late deliveries reorted by the carrier

2 late delieveries reported by the buyer

My deficit is 1.66

At this rate another 4 and and I will slip below standard and what the hell has the carrier (Aus Post) got to do with reporting late deliveries ?

I cannot do anymore than post every day and I believe some people would winge evn if  I teleported the parcels that day..............

With Satchels you need to lodge them at the PO otherwise you are relying on AusPosts scanning system and as items can sit in sorting offices for days sometimes weeks they may not be scanned in time. If you use satchels either ebay or the red one take them to the PO make sure they are scanned that will be the end of the story. I know you want to keep the premium badge and I understand that but personally I would change anything that goes as a large letter to 3 days handling. If you post every day satchels should be ok (someone will correct me if I am wrong) but you will have to post 6 days a week Saturday included and go to the PO not post boxes.

The other thing I would do is contact Ebay and say some of the defects are because you posted the satchels in a post box so lodgement was not done and try to get some of the defects removed it may take hanging in there and being a little stubborn but remember they can remove them and in fairness they should.

I wonder what happens if you are on holidays and switch on holiday settings. If you continue getting orders while you are away and you post them on your return home, will they be counted as late ??

I'm sorry but I am not a seller anymore because I was suspended by ebay due to buyers that caused my suspension by doing the exact thing as is happening to the OP.

And as a buyer I wouldn't want any seller that I buy off to end up like me,unable to sell,just because of ebays and AP mishaps.

A buyer shouldn't be going out of their way on purpose just to ruin sellers lives,OP and other sellers do their darn best to post same or next day and then to get defects for things that are out of the sellers control is just deploreable.

I sell in a category that has thousands of Chinese sellers with same or similar products. For every one product I have at $5.00, they have 1000 at $2.00, so at the very least I can understand some of the challenges you face. I feel they can be overcome in a lot of different ways, above and beyond short handling times and the service badge. 

As I mentioned, I have a 2-day handling time, most of my items don't have tracking, I'm a top rated seller, but I have 0 interest in eBay's "premium service" badge anyway, I refuse to do "free" postage and 30-day COM returns. I also have 0 interest in actually trying to compete with the Chinese sellers, I prefer to distinguish myself from them - it is possible to stand out from the crowd in so many other ways (I am not intending this as criticism of any kind, I'm just trying to highlight some other perspectives and approaches that are hopefully a bit more constructive for you - my categories aren't fishing, they're jewellery and craft supplies). I try to provide more customised choices, higher quality unique products, better service post-sale, just to name a few.  

If we just for a moment leave aside the unfairness of the situation and look purely at the reality, it's possible due to eBay's stupid shipping metric that you may soon (temporarily) lose the premium service badge anyway, so if that happens it won't matter if you have a 0 or 3 day handling time (purely in terms of having it for the badge), so if that happens it's probably not going to hurt to trial the longer handling time. 

That being said, if you want access to cheaper than pre-paid satchels that aren't eBay's, and you have an ABN, you may want to look at applying for Australia Post's Business 250 membership, which is via Click & Send. It basically works exactly the same as C&S / eBay labels, but the prices are cheaper than the pre-paids (eBay 500g satchel = $7.15, plus satchel / label costs, B250 flat rate = $7.20 plus satchel / label costs). I mention that because you can create labels via C&S without pulling the data from eBay and automatically uploading the tracking info (according to eBay, they only automatically count eBay labels anyway).

Thankyou that is some great advice and i may have to suck it up and loose and extend handling times and loose my premium service badge, thanks ebay for the great support I have been a model seller for you for over 11 years with not one unsatisified customer.

But hey I am nothing now because I am not a high end seller like the bald guy with lots of race horses................................

I have just returned from closing shop for a week.....put it on 'holiday mode' and extended my handling time to 10 days for the duration...back to 1 day now. Sold quite a bit whilst 'away'...no problems, yet

I post using the eBay satchels and have not had defects yet. I have 1 handling time and post the same or next day. I am classed as metro, closer to Sydney. All my items now if the buyer wants to purchase is with tracking. Do not trust posting my sales as letter if there are delays.

Like more sellers now with defects, they are not very happy with what's going on. I too have a defect for international, one from buyer and one from carrier. The item was purchased, paid for and posted on same day with tracking. I still got a defect, this seems unrealistic. I used Australia Post 'Pack and Track International', it took about two weeks to arrive to the buyer, normally 5-10 days and this arrived on 24th December. 

According to the tracking information it took 5 days to customs, another 5 days to the country and then another 5-6 days to the buyer. Now this calls for a defect and no one bothered to check when the seller posted or that at Christmas time there can be a delay.

Well, no more international sales, too much of a risk.

If you can't get satchels scanned within handling time then make sure you dont upload any tracking numbers, even if you have them. Currently C & S upload numbers but not tracking events, so I dont think they will cause carrier instigated late shipping. Though it may not stay that way.

Extending handling time doesn't just push estimated delivery out it also increases chance of you getting a scan as it passes through your local collection center within time frame, which counts.

At the end of the day it sucks but as others have said if you are accumulating defects you need to do some sort of workaround.

As far as chinese lure competion is concerned there is a huge price gap between local and chinese, so being further down the list is not that important. Buyers will already have decided if they want cheap and slow or faster at convenience prices. Your main competition is with other local sores.
