Make Non Payers Pay

not sure about other sellers,but i am sick of the bidders who don't pay,i think its time ebay fines these people a minimal fee to go to the seller when they don't pay,my time should be covered for all the extra hassle that i have to go through,any one else?

ebay should have  one month suspension for first offence total suspension second offence especially whenthey wont answere mails ebays policy states you are obligated to pay auction law is if you bid you pay if not you can be sued for all expenses and time wasted any auction has this stated so why not here its australian law i believe and ebay tells us we have to follow the law as sellers

Never going to happen, eBay are not going to restrict buyer's in that way - it would financial suicide. They have provided us with the necessary tools to lessen the occurrence of NPB's, we just have to be diligent and use them

Hi all, following the process, after reminder emails and invoices, i always open disputes, and follow through with strikes, and I think I have my block bidder list and settings correct, but as was said above a strike is no such deterent.  I also appreciate a previous comment not to waste too much time on NPB, however when the same pickup item gets bid on 3 times and not paid or picked up it starts to annoy me!  (too big to post). and yes another annoying thing is you have to wait that length of time until you relist

Why?  So they may for one reason or other not pay for one transaction, but they may pay for 10 others.

Non paying bidders are just a minor annoyance, comes with the territory of eBay selling.  If you have a B&M shop you get people handle stock with dirty hands, you end up with mascara and foundation on clothing, you get people size 24 trying to squeeze into size 12 dresses and if you point out they may not fit (trying to prevent the to split the seams) they will get offended and call you the rudest b...h.

I rather deal with acassional non payer 🙂

I have no problem with buyers suffering some sort of punishment or penalty for non paying, be it a small fine, a suspension, or what about where feedback is positive neutral or bad, what about a 4th section showing how many NPB strikes you have had over a period of time.

However what is good for the goose is good for the gander, if something like this came in for non paying buyers, the same should be done for non performing sellers, a fine or a suspension or a visual indication of how many times they have refused to complete a transaction on their feedback page.

The traffic needs to be both ways for buyers and sellers not just one or the other. And as for your time you might loose dealing with a NPB , the same can be said about non performing sellers, they take up time by waiting for an auction to close in which time you are not bidding on the same item that might come along elsewhere because you have committed to one auction, and my time and stuffing around is just as valuable as a sellers time.

Have to disagree.

Non payers should get a fine or penalty of some kind.

What happens now is not working and rarely properly enforced.

It is happening to often and needs to be stopped.

It takes time sending reminders etc and opening and closing NPB cases.

If they were forced to pay something it may help at least slow it somewhat.

First offense. Buyer pays seller Fees and a small penalty. To go to seller for time wasted.

Further offenses higher penalties and then suspension.

It is so annoying sending emails etc and never even getting a reply. Then having to wait over a week to be able to re sell it.X-(

2 clicks to open a case.

Ditto to close it.

One click to relist.

Something in the order of 60 seconds total elapsed time over a week and a bit.

Set your blocks properly and the frequency of NPBs will probably reduce.

Apart from anything else how are you going to enforce fines? There is no requirement for a buyer only to provide any financial information to eBay, and as they are not purchasing anything from eBay AG, I suspect such a requirement would be illegal.

Or do you think all new members should have to make a (possibly) non-refundable deposit in order to use the site? That, I suspect, will ensure you don't get too many NPBs. You probably won't sell much to the decreasing number of buyers, either. There are already plenty of sites with sellers but not many buyers; I don't think we need any more.

What about the buyer who foolishly bids on and wins an item then has a moment of sanity and comes here and we say "DON'T PAY". How are ebay meant to distinguish between a buyer who doesn't pay because they are a numpty and the buyer who doesn't pay because they realise, belatedly, that their 24k gold ring with genuine diamonds that they bought for $5 is not going to be as described and if they pay they will have to pay the cost of return postage to get their money back!
